Gingoog City|Gingoog .” in the Province of Misamis Oriental in the Northern Mindanao Region on Mindanao island. The city is approximately 122 kilometers (76 mi) east of Cagayan de Oro City and 74 kilometers (46 mi) west of Butuan City. It is bounded on the east by the Municipality of Magsaysay; on the west by the Municipality of Medina; on the south by the Municipality of Claveria, and on the north by Gingoog Bay. Its total land area is 56,844 hectares (140,460 acres).

The city was founded by Spanish missionaries in 1750. It was the oldest town in Misamis Oriental Province, even older than the province’s capital and economic hub, Cagayan de Oro, which was founded in 1871.

The term Gingoog originally came from the word “Hingoog,” which means “Goodluck,” from a Lumad tribe of Manobo who settled in the area. The name implies good fortune; thus Gingoog City means the City of Good Luck. The natives of this place are the ones with the family names of “Gingco,” and “Gingoyon.”

DOWNTOWN GINGOOG

The small town of Gingoog City. This picture was taken on the summer of July 2012. How I missed this place, the food, and the chaos, everything is so different here in the US. These pictures bring back so many memories from the past, and I can’t wait to visit again!

GETTING THERE

If you are a tourist or not from Mindanao flying into Cagayan De Oro City via Laguindingan International Airport, or Butuan City via Bancasi Airport is the best route.  You may want to rent a car/taxi to take to Gingoog. Buses are great and cheap, but it will take you significantly longer to arrive. Plan your trip and know your arrival time, you may want to stay in CDO for a night before traveling to Gingoog. These are two option to reach Gingoog.

~WHERE TO EAT~

#1 Mansion By the Sea Even though Eastland has the restaurant, we decided to have lunch at Mansion By the Sea and get some seafood. If you love seafood, the mansion by the sea is the one to go. The place is casual and open air, and the food is always good.

After our lunch, we headed to check out Pahayahay sa Pantalan. Pahayahay is much like a boardwalk/a promenade along the beach. This is where friends and family came down to relax and enjoy the evening.

He got to try to drive the buggy, he said it wasn’t easy 🙂

After messing around at the pier, we proceed to Grahe SideWalk Grill for dinner and meet up with friends and family to do karaoke. It was a fun filled day!
