Our next stop is where we take our break and have our lunch at Sunset Beach.

Sunset Beach | is on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii and known for big wave surfing during the winter season. The original Hawaiian name for this place is Paumalū.

I must say the beach was beautiful and it was not too crowded like Waikiki beach. The water was crystal clear, and during the summer the surf is not too rough for kids to swim. There are some trees to get shade, but it is not too comfortable, so maybe a big beach umbrella would be handy. This beach has a long walk to the water. Additionally, the beach is large. Spacious and underpopulated. When we went, there were no waves, and it was very relaxing.

Sunset Beach’s wintertime waves are too intense for amateur surfers. But this is a great place to go if you want to be a spectator. The summer tide is mellow enough for swimming, and there’s usually a lifeguard around to better ensure your safety.

The scenery is amazing, and all local food restaurants are close by! The view from this beach is breathtaking. Most of the parking in on the roadside. You must stop off here even if it’s just to take some photos.

During the winter the beach is a world-famous surfing spot, home to internationally renowned surfing contests. This is when the waves can reach 30+ feet (9m), which makes Sunset Beach a real surfer’s paradise.Sunset Beach is at the east end of this 2-mile long sandy shore. To the west are Ehukai Beach and Banzai Pipeline, two other famous surfing beaches.

When you’re in Hawaii, you just can’t get enough of Hawaii. In this trip, we stay in Oahu Island most of the time yet we want more but time is insufficient. The truth is, it’s hard to leave Hawaii. We are so thankful to our friends who accommodated us and tour us around the incredible island.
