Have Fun in the Sun

The main attraction that draws people to Port Aransas is the beach. The beach alone stretch to 18 miles. Therefore, a visit to the beach is a must during your time in this coastal city. Build a sand castle, search for seashells, or simply sunbathe near the shore. Make sure to bring beach toys, and floats.  Don’t forget to bring plenty of water in your cooler too it gets really hot on the beach. Also a reef friendly sunscreen is a must.

However for the older families, if you’re interested in activities like kayaking, jet skiing, and windsurfing, you’ll find rentals and guides here too. Now there are a number of great beach parks to explore that have certain amenities like drinking water and bathrooms. Visit Port Aransas Beach or IB Magee Beach Park, two of the best beaches in Port Aransas.

Collect Seashells and search for Hermit Crabs at night

The boys having so much fun collecting seashells on the shore, and we take it home and use it to decorate some of our vacation photo frame. In the evening we spent a few minutes looking for crabs and hermit crabs just for fun. So bring a flashlight to use. Crabs and hermit crabs will come out in the evening.

Fishing

Port Aransas offers some of the best coastal fishing in the Lone Star State. Simply fish from the bay or beach, or even take a boat out to enjoy offshore fishing. There are plenty of fish species found in the waters near Port Aransas, such as tuna, red snapper, trout, marlin and even shark. To catch fish in Port Aransas, all fishermen must obtain a fishing license with a saltwater stamp

Flying a Kite

We spent plenty of time trying to fly a kite. Staying it up and keep it flying is a hard work for someone who is a rookie like me to fly a kite. But thank goodness to my husband the boys learned how to fly a kite at the end of the day. Now we can’t wait to go back.

Bird Watching

Port Aransas is home to numerous bird species, therefore birdwatching is a popular activity here. Birds can be found along the beach and in town.

One of the best birdwatching spots in the city is at Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center. No matter what time of year, you’re bound to see many bird species during your trip to this birding center. This 10-acre center is home to a boardwalk and a 25-foot observation tower. However, be sure to check with the City of Port Aransas as the center may be open with limited access due to damage from Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

Visit The University of Texas Marine Science Institute

Excellent Sea Life display a great tour to take while on the island. Lots of interactive things for the kids to do. Learn about the Texas coast and the research done here at The University of Texas Marine Science Institute. This science center is home to seven exhibits that are open to the public. With exhibits on coastal ecosystems along the Texas shoreline to demos on how to preserve coastal wetlands, a visit to The University of Texas Marine Science Institute is sure to be both educational and fun

Visit Port Aransas Museum

The Port Aransas Museum is a very fun and educational place – and provides visitors with a detailed history of this resort town. It is a welcome diversion from other “beachy” activities, especially on rainy days or when you need to get out of the sun for a while. The volunteers who make the Port A Historical Society go are an extraordinarily dedicated group and very pleasant. This place, as well as their farley boat house, are highly recommended.
