9 Essentials You Have to Pack for Your Next Mountain Vacation

Whether you live in a cosmopolitan city or a small town, sometimes you need to get away from other people and the craziness of life. At times like that, there’s nothing quite like a trip to the mountains. Nature, fresh air and silence do wonders for the soul.

However, there are some mountain trip essentials that you need to remember to bring with you. Packing them will make sure that your journey is safe and enjoyable.

Keep reading for a list of nine things you need to take on a mountain vacation.

  1. The Right Pair of Shoes

Bringing the right pair of shoes or boots may seem apparent, but many people do not. This can cause pain, blisters, and a number of other things foot related problems.

Make sure you bring a good pair of shoes with good traction, irrespective of the environment in which you’ll be hiking or walking. This will make sure that you are still gripping the various surfaces. You should also be sure that your shoes are comfy. This will help stop pain, no matter how much you walk or hike.

  1. Weather Resistant Clothing

When the weather is unpredictable, it is best to bring layers and clothing that can handle sudden changes. The same goes when packing for a mountain trip or hike.

Try to find wind and water resistant pieces of jackets and outerwear. Any clothing you bring with you should be breathable, and should not catch on to things like water and sweat.

When packing your bag, roll your clothes rather than folding them. This will take up less space and also stop them from creasing.

  1. Nice Socks

A good pair of socks is just as important as a reliable pair of hiking boots. They can make the difference between a comfy hiking experience and a harrowing one.

Avoid fabrics like cotton and polyester, as they absorb sweat and water. If your feet are wet, you will want them to dry in no time. Certain materials like wool will keep your feet warm, dry and cozy. Some socks are also padded, preventing strain on your feet.

  1. A hat

Whether you will be hiking in the dead of winter, the height of summer, or sometime in between, it is a good idea to bring a hat.

In summer, a hat can help keep the sun off your face and body. It will also keep you dry during a rainstorm. In winter, a hat will keep your head warm and toasty, preventing body heat from escaping you. A good hat is just as important as your hiking boots and socks.

  1. Sunblock

Wearing sunscreen is something that almost all people know to do, but often forget to do. However, not applying sunscreen can have serious repercussions on your short-term and long-term health.

The majority of UV rays from the sun come in two forms: UVA and UVB. Most people are familiar with UVB rays, as they’re what cause burns and discoloration. However, UVA rays can cause premature aging, in addition to skin cancer. Wear sunscreen to stop these two rays from damaging your skin.

  1. First Aid Box

When you are away from civilization, you need to be sure that you’re ready for every kind of emergencies. Carrying a first aid kit ensures that you and those traveling with you are kept safe. Bring any prescription medicine you need, OTC painkillers, bandages, and other essentials.

You even have to get used to the closest mountain city. In case of an emergency, you must have an escape plan back to a safe point.

  1. Climbing Pole

If you are going to be traversing areas of various elevations, it is a good idea to have a hiking pole with you.

A climbing pole improves your balance and also helps reduce pressure on your feet and spine. Many of them are also affordable and foldable, allowing you to store them until you need them.

  1. Bug spray

Summer hikes are great, but the only drawback is the amount of bugs. Mosquitoes, flies and other bugs can take away from an amazing experience. Carrying a bottle of bug spray can help keep them under control.

If you do not like using harsh store-bought products, you can try making your own DIY spray. Oils like lavender, citronella, and tea tree all repel insects. Experiment with different potions until you find one that works for you.

  1. Activity Specific Equipment

If you plan to do certain activities while in the mountains, be sure you bring the required equipment to enjoy them and stay safe.

If you plan to record video and document your ride, be sure you have a good camera with you, in addition to all the required mounts. You will also need to take a memory card and charging equipment with you.

If you’re going to be participating in a winter activity, such as skiing or snow, make sure to pack the required equipment. In some cases, you may have the ability to rent certain items in a close by town.

Planning a Mountain Vacation? Don’t Forget These Nine Things

Mountain vacations are fun, but you need to be sure you and the people you are traveling with can handle absolutely anything. By following this guide and bringing some of the nine items mentioned, you are sure to have a safe and unforgettable mountain vacation.
