You may miss seeing Beau Mirchoff as Matty on MTV’s hit series, Awkward, but you will not be around for long. He returned to the big screen in Flatliners. We must catch up with Beau. Here’s what he said:
You move on from a more comedic role as Matty Clumsy for a more serious role in Flat line. Was it fun to do something different?
Very! Although I’ve been lucky enough to do a number of different roles in numerous genres, even while filming Clumsy.
What it is like to work with a star-studded cast, including Ellen Page and Kiefer Sutherland, on Flat line?
It’s at all times a pleasure to work with talented actors as they elevate your game. Plus Jack Bauer was, is, and will at all times be my hero.
What about the 1990 version of Flat line affecting your performance in the 2017 reboot?
This version is very different. It has different directors, scripts and actors. So apart from understanding the film’s tone, the original did not do much for my performance. But I watch it a lot because it is astonishing.
What’s the biggest surprise Flat line will bring to his audience?
I can not tell you the biggest surprise, but I can tell you there were lots of twists and turns!
How do you relate to your character, Jonathan, at Party Boat?
Jonathan is someone who loves to have fun, and that I can certainly relate to that. We even have a hairy chest.
You are joined by Brett Davern (Jake in Clumsy) Again Party Boat. Are you happy to be working with him again?
Of course! How cool would it be for best friends to go on a movie shoot together in numerous states on a lovely lake? It was incredible. We even have good chemistry, we work well together, we cut scenes together and we speak the same language. Acting language… but we also speak English together.
What is the most challenging role you have played in your career so far?
I played Treat in the play Orphans by Lyle Kessler a few years ago. He is an orphaned street kid who robs people to support himself and his mentally ill brother. It was a big challenge, but the most rewarding and enjoyable acting experience.
Do you have a ritual that you do before you enter a set and begin a scene?
I did a series of vocal warm-ups and relaxation exercises. Sometimes I play guitar and freestyle a few verses to try and get in a good mood.
If you were not an actor, what more could you want?
Maybe a classics professor/writer. Or something related to biology…I love nature!
Do you have any advice for aspiring actors?
Work hard and take your work seriously!
You can catch Beau Mirchoff Flat line in theaters September 29, 2017 and Crackle’s Boat Party it is in fact streaming on Crackle now.
