Perry’s recent leg of the tour offers something for everybody. While not all will agree with the skit, all will leave with something to discuss. Surprise and imagination.
Perry’s concerts reflect her love of all things fun. The Philadelphia stage included a treadmill, which Perry and her dancers used in the middle of the song and dance. Other ‘Prismatic’ props include: a glow-in-the-dark jump rope during “Roar”, Perry’s LED-lit dress, gladiator dancers, inflatable balloon dresses, dancers spinning from a diamond-shaped cage, a sheet covering the crowd, and fire.
Theme.
With set-changes every third or so (and obviously, bold costume designs), Perry’s songs appear grouped by sound. From a galactic group show revolving around “ET” to 90s mixes plus “Walking on Air”, seeing a Perry show is a lot like attending 3 concerts for the price of one. Expect “Here’s How We Do It”, which is decked out with pink car accessories for Perry and her dancers, and a festive backdrop of Chanel, wine and “Katy’s Tacos”.
Magnificent entrance.
Perry takes command when she walks into a room, her dancers often setting the stage on stage while she follows close behind. He started the show out of the actual glass prism, then rides on a fake horse for “The Dark Horse”, where she dons Cleopatran’s outfit and takes a turn swinging from a diamond-shaped cage during “ET”
humor.
Perry lets her personality shine through through the cat in the car video that follows Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice”. Unafraid to add the odd stitch, she donned a pink cat suit while her cat suit dancer sat on an enlarged cat pole. Soon, cat-clad performers joined Perry on the runway, posing to Madonna’s “Vogue” and drinking from a “milk stall” exploding glistening powder.
Other Perry antics: She eats cheesesteak on stage, randomly discusses the plants she grows in her garden, and has a fan take selfies for her.
Perspective.
One span of the night, floral umbrellas open from the middle of the ceiling, the room transforming into a serene escape. Perry bares her soul, explaining her desire to bring “hope, joy and joy, because we know life can be hard sometimes.” Exercising “God’s Grace,” “Unconditional.” and a blend of “The One That Got Away” with “Thinking of You”, Perry showcases her voice and acoustic guitar skills.
Crazy Katycat fans.
Teenagers and mother-daughter pairs galore, Perry fans are a real show of pride. Spotted in the crowd were candy-chested tank tops, pink wigs, tutus, and exclaiming LED lit signs “KATY, WE LOVE YOU.”
Energy.
Perry did not just address the crowd; he’s screaming. Her youthful declarations of “love yourself” and “be in the moment” got the crowds on, showing that she wants them to have fun. The show begins dramatically, slowing down for forty-five minutes, then bringing you back to a heart-pumping state of vitality. If you leave after an encore song, you will still hear him start the next song, going and going like an Energizer battery. If you are attempting to find a performer to put on a show, you are in good hands with Perry.
