It was in the 90s, in the desert, with 40 mph winds… what did you do with your hair and makeup? There is quite a difference between the choices made by artists compared to the crowd. Performers prefer to concentrate more on their make-up and hairstyles. Of course there isn’t any scarcity of gold and silver flash tattoos. Below are some of the trends seen in Chella’s fields.
Hair
Because of the wind many women embraced braids and buns this year. French braids and crown braids are two favorites. Also, half-up fine loaves are also common. The key is to keep your hair out of your eyes. Not as many big hats as we have seen in previous years. Female artists opt for similar beachy waves, and/or tousled hair as they jump around the stage. I think there was quite a lot of sea salt spray used backstage.
Grooming
One word: Sparkle. Ke$ha’s presence must have had an impact on the ladies in Chel, because her sparkling eyes were everywhere. Kim from Matt and Kim delivers color blindfolded electrical blue while banging his drums. Lauren Mayberry from Chrvches uses large flecks of silver glitter below and above the lid which nearly resembles a mask. Halsey has a dark lid with full silver glitter over the top. Ellie Goulding opted for a soft natural look in shimmery neutrals, like the boy of the girls in the crowd. It seems that he went from one extreme to another. Dewy sun kissed natural look, or bright and shimmering neon.
As a makeup artist who values unique looks, I hope some of these trends are applied to women’s everyday looks. There is a Khloe Kardashian and Ke$ha spirit in all of us, so let it shine as a queen!
