Crawfish season can last from November to July, especially during an exceptionally warm and wet winter, but the most reliable months—and the time you’ll find the best crawfish—are in the springtime and early summer, from late February through May. Austin restaurants and bars are taking advantage of mudbug time. Expect spicy boils with potatoes, sausage, and corn, spots offering special dishes, or markets selling the live freshwater crustaceans by the pound.

Crawfish Boils

Here are the list to the Austin’s best bets restaurants offering crawfish dishes, from etouffee to pot pies to fried mudbugs. Perfect those peeling skills now.

1

Crawfish Shack & Oyster Bar North

It’s all in the name: find market-priced boiled crawfish at both the north and south locations of the seafood restaurant. For an added bonus, order the étouffée.

One of our favorite spot/restaurant during crawfish season. They also serve crabs and shrimps and other seafood. Make sure to get their early or else you will have to wait in line.

  1. I have never eaten crawfish, but I really want to try them. Reading this and looking at the pics made me want to try them even more! I didn’t know so many places had them.

    1. Hi Jaynaylee,
I love crawfish, in our area where we live we can only get them during crawfish season with decent size. We make sure that we can at least cooked our own once a year. If you like lobster, you will love crawfish. The meat texture is almost the same; Only crayfish is a lot smaller than the lobster.:)

      1. I love lobster! It’s crazy because before I was pregnant I hated lobster, but I started craving it while pregnant and now I have to eat it already twice a month! If crawfish is like lobster I definitely have to have it!
