Any episode that sees Regular-Sized Rudy throwing a baby-sized water bottle to save the day is certainly an awesome episode. End of review. Period.
Oh you want more? Good person to not believe it, but Regular-Sized Rudy has officially become one of my favourite characters Bob’s Burgers and I do not care who knows. “Dawn of the Peck” is a Thanksgiving episode that trumps last year’s “Turkey on the Can,” but does not live up to its heart. Bob’s favourite vacation did not go his way again this year as we open at Belchers parting ways with Bob spending the day drunk alone trying to forget it was Thanksgiving and remember why Donna Summers was so loud (besides, who was with me in doing a Kickstarter to fund a John H. Benjamin Donna Summers?) while Linda and the children go on a crushed turkey tour and half price rides (Bob is the only one who is passive aggressive bitter, everybody else is proud of the half price rides and baby water bottles).
Things at Wonder Wharf go straight to hell soon after the start of the race when the children end up at risk on a pseudo teacup ride and Linda and her fellow Turkey Trotters end up being chased by the fowl. Meanwhile, Bob returns home with a noon whiskey warming his vocals utterly oblivious to the disaster quickly engulfing the town and ultimately scores Linda’s failed try to save the kids. This balance between everyday boredom and crazy disaster complements one another perfectly to tie the two storylines together. I’m going to do a musical analogy so stay with me, this episode really is like an awesome Pixies song, quiet in the verses (Bob’s daydrinking) and loud in the chorus (Linda and Turkey’s run), each section highlighting how different they’re. Makes silent parts appear less sparse and loud parts more chaotic.
I gave this episode an A- because the ending is a little too neat and overall it does not have the heart I want in a vacation episode. For example, the most sentimental scene is between Bob and his Turkish bastard. Overall although, any episode ending with Bob introducing Regular-sized Rudy to Donna Summers would not be that bad.
