The holidays are finally here! While there’s always a lot to get done—holiday decorating, gift wrapping, travel plans—there’s also so many fun family activities to do. 1. Write letter to Santa

Writing a letter to Santa is a super fun Christmas tradition. And the Postal Service™ can help you prove it when Santa replies to your child’s letter — complete with the North Pole Postmark! The Greetings from the North Pole Post Office program adds to the excitement of Christmas and is ideal for getting kids interested in letter writing, stamps and penmanship. More info here.

2. Wrap all your Christmas books and put them under the tree

Wrap each book separately and put it under the tree or in a basket. Every night your child can pick one book out from under the tree or from the basket. You could make this random or you could put the numbers #1 – 25 on each book so that you can control which book to read each night.

3. Make your own Christmas card

No gift is complete without a festive card. This year, try making your own holiday cards, rather than buying them. You’ll save money and create cards that are truly one-of-a-kind. Plus, your friends and family will love the personal touch.

4. Build a Gingerbread House

Nothing beats a craft that you can eat when you’re finished! Many supermarkets will sell a gingerbread house kit around the holidays. The kit will usually include the bare essentials to build four walls and a roof. Take your child to the candy aisle of the supermarket and help them select a few custom treats that will add to the design of the gingerbread house.

5. Make Gingerbread Men or Sugar Cookies

Depending on how old your child is, they may be able to help you make the cookie batter. Let them decide if they want to add in chocolate chips, coconut, cinnamon, and even food coloring. Pick out some holiday-themed cookie cutters and let your child play pastry chef. If you have any leftover candy from the gingerbread house decorating, be sure to add them to the sugar cookies. Once all the cookies are baked, you could encourage your child to share them with some of their classmates at school or the neighbors on your street.

6. Cut Paper Snowflakes

This fun Christmas activity with kids is super easy to set up and execute. Most of us have paper lying around the house, but you can add some artistic flair to the project by buying some colored construction paper or origami paper. Fold up the paper numerous times and have your child cut out some creative designs. Once unfolded, you can hang the paper snowflakes on the Christmas tree, from the mantel, or tape them to the wall. You could even include one of the hand-made paper snowflakes with your holiday card that you mail off to your family and friends. Browse online for some stencils to create some really fun patterns.

7. Go For a Christmas Lights Drive

Make some hot cocoa, pour a cup for each member of the family, and head out in the car in search of the best Christmas light displays. You may know a couple of neighborhoods that always go above and beyond each winter. Some cities and towns even have a professionally made light display or experience that charges admission. If you are lucky, you will come across a light display that is synched up with music.

8. Roast Marshmallows In The Fireplace For Homemade S'mores.

S’mores aren’t just for campfires! Take advantage of being stuck indoors on a snowy day by getting a fire going.

9. Read a Holiday Classic Before Bed

Break out your childhood copy of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and gather around the fireplace with the family.
