How to Play the Guitar Like a Pro: Top Tips

The guitar is among the easiest instruments to learn to play. However, simply because it is easy to learn, doesn’t suggest it is easy to master. Mastering the guitar can take a lifetime. If you want to commit to learning the art of guitar playing and want to become a pro, then this job is for you. You must be motivated, determined, and dedicated. If you have all these qualities and believe that you have what it takes, then you are in the right place.

Here’s how to play guitar like a pro:

Digital Magazine

The internet has no scarcity of digital magazines and blogs, focused on music. Reading digital magazines can be a really effective way learn guitar because you can learn tips and tricks from musicians of all abilities and experience. If you’re going to retrieve information from a digital magazine, do it slowly. If you try to incorporate lots of various tips into your music practice too quickly, you’ll be overwhelmed. Digital magazines are also an excellent way to find out about what is going on in the music industry and with music culture.

Different Position

As you practice, try practicing in several positions. The mistake many amateur musicians make is learning to sit or stand. Learning to play both seated and standing can make you a far more competent musician because you won’t ever be pushed out of your comfort zone. If you have only ever played music sitting down, if you are asked to perform standing up, you may not have the ability to do it, otherwise you may be under plenty of pressure. Alternate between sitting and standing as you practice at home.

Play Slow

The best way to learn to play guitar is to play slowly. Do not rush. If you try too fast, you’ll fail or burn out. Sit, take a breath and calm yourself. The slower you go when you are studying, the more you can absorb. It can be hard to follow and remember patterns when you go too fast. It also makes you more easily distracted. As the old saying goes, slow and steady wins the race.

Silent Practice

One way to learn to play guitar effectively is to practice silently. This means you must practice (sometimes) without really making a fuss. Touch the guitar strings gently, without in fact pulling on them. This will help you become familiar with the different cables, making you a far more effective musician. It’s the best way to perfect your finger placement and control your instrument. The big problem with plenty of amateur guitarists is that they lose their wires or their fingers fall off. Silent practice can help you master the guitar strings, making sure that you never run into the problems mentioned above.

Right Finger

As mentioned before, correct finger placement is everything. You’re unlikely to become a competent musician otherwise perfect your finger placement. If you are really having trouble learning proper finger placement, then the smartest thing for you to do is watch online tutors or take a class (which we’ll cover next). There’s no scarcity of guides online, which specialise in teaching people how to perfect their guitar fingering. Do some research and try to find the guide that’s easiest for you to understand. You can even ask anyone you know who plays guitar for help.

Online Class

Online classes are a really effective method of learning to play guitar. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, guitar classes have mainly been held taking place online. While it may be difficult for some to learn through online classes, it’s without a doubt the safest way to remember everything that is going on in the world. There’s also a lot less pressure when you are learning to play guitar remotely because you haven’t got someone breathing down your neck and watching your every move.

Physical Teacher

If you do not like the sound of online classes or do not think they will be as effective for you, then you can go ahead and hire a physical tutor. While some people aren’t ready to go out and attend in-person classes, if you’re then now is a good time, as the pandemic is generally over and lockdowns are a thing of the past. As long as you wear personal protective equipment and get vaccinated, you shouldn’t have any problem finding someone to teach you. You can find tutors by reading magazine classifieds, asking questions, and looking for people on social media.

Be friends

Previously, it was proposed that enlisting the help of a friend was an effective method of learning proper finger placement. Well, not only finger placement that you can learn from friends and folks who are experienced in the guitar. They should have the ability to teach you lots of interesting tips, techniques and tricks. If they’re very experienced, they might even have the ability to teach you. The best way to make friends is to network with other musicians online and attend music events. You can even join a club or troupe in your area.

Stay Disciplined

Discipline is everything. You can never become an experienced and educated musician without discipline. You must have the ability to encourage yourself to practice if you want to be the best musician you can be. A big problem for many musicians is that they struggle to stay disciplined, which results in them not practicing or perfecting their skills. The best way to discipline yourself is to establish a strict routine, where you play at a certain time of day, every day. Stick to whatever routine you set if you want the best chance of success as a musician.

Learning to play the guitar is tough, but it is absolutely worth it. If you are an experienced and educated guitarist, you should have the ability to find work as a musician and possibly join a band. Playing the guitar is also an excellent way to vent and release stress.
