How to prepare yourself for long bike rides

If you have just bought a bicycle and are looking forward to long trips on your machine, you should know that it can be torturous to your body if you do not prepare it properly. Since you must sit on the bike for a long time, you need to know a few things before you truly start doing such a ride. You can think of it as an exercise that can be overwhelming at first, but with more rides and practice it will get easier for you. However, if you follow the tips and tricks mentioned below, those early days of cycling can become much more snug for you and your pillion too.

Start strengthening your back

One of the main areas that may experience stress while riding is your back. Since your back muscles aren’t used to sitting in the same position while cycling for long periods of time, it is most likely one of the areas that you might feel stressed in the middle of a ride. Therefore, it would be nice if you could start stretching your back muscles at least 2-3 weeks before starting cycling. This will be enough time for your back muscles to reshape themselves and increase their capacity to take more stress. This will help your body deal with serious fatigue on long journeys and will make you much more snug too.

Eat lightly and do not be too full

Having a healthy gut while riding a bike is among the most significant things. Nobody wants the feeling of heaviness or discomfort when riding a bike. Be sure to eat light and healthy one to two days before you start cycling. This won’t only relax your body while driving but will also make sure that you have no health problems on the road.

Get enough sleep and be well hydrated

One of the main problems people face on long distance cycling is that they start to feel sleepy or too thirsty, because of which they need to take steps at regular intervals, something people on long journeys do not appreciate. Therefore, be sure you have 7-8 hours of sleep and rest before driving, and also ensure your body is sufficiently hydrated.

Check your bike

One of the most significant points, before you set off on a long bike ride, is to check it properly. Engine oil, chain lubrication and other things need to be checked properly before you take off. Things like puncture kits, air inflators are also a must-have if you have a flat tire on the road. Things like that will ensure your bike does not break down in the middle of the road and ruin the fun you have along the way.

Bring your accessories and pack them properly

One of the main problems people face when packing for long distance cycling is losing things and packing the wrong way so things aren’t easily accessible. When packing, ensure the items you need direct access to are easily accessible in the bag. Tools, gloves from Yamaha Cully, documents must be packed in such a way that they’re at the top of the bags or in other baggage such as tank bags. This won’t only save you quite a lot of time but will also stop you from unpacking your entire baggage. Also, make a list of the items you’ll be taking with you and check every one as you pack so nothing gets lost.
