eEvery year, the first weekend in November, New York City is flooded with the sound of the runner craze. And in what will be one of New York’s busiest weekends, the TCS NYC Marathon will span 26.2 miles across the city’s 5 boroughs. From the Verrazano Bridge to Central Park, more than 50,000 runners from all over the world will have the opportunity to run in the most famous and televised marathon.
Social Influencer, Blogger, and New York Local Maria Solis Belizaire will even have the opportunity to complete the grueling 26.2 miles starting from New York’s Staten Island. “I didn’t think that 2 months ago I would be able to run it, but thanks to the marathon running program “Run for Charity”, I was able to get a slot to compete,” said Maria. After running for The Covenant House’s “Home Team,” Maria and numerous other runners, will join the charity for a guaranteed slot if they cannot get in through the NYRR 9+1 program, or through the Marathon lottery. After wrapping up 2014, in which her mobile phone died at mile 16, Maria is adamant that this year she will be fully prepared. With an iPod and a spare charger for his mobile phone in hand, he posts his experiences online as he passes each mile marker. “I just want to show people out there that running marathons can be fun and exciting too. I also wanted to show the young adults living in Covenant House how the challenges they face are similar to how someone would win through a marathon.”
The perfect weather also added to the joy, as numerous spectators flocked to cheer on this year’s runners. For the main prize, $100,000 each went to the Highest Winner Male and Female, both from Kenya. 2nd and 3rd places for the men’s and ladies’s races will also go to 2 Kenyans, and 2 Ethiopians.
