It may be controversial nowadays, but many people agree that in the world of the performing arts, theater is still king. Whether these people know the majority or not, but one thing is for sure, people haven’t stopped watching theatrical productions despite the decline of other art forms. Art galleries are the most visited places modern art displayed. Paintings, installations, videos and more can be enjoyed at the various renowned art galleries. However, with the emergence of video sharing platforms, all kinds of art can be enjoyed online. Even as holy springs of knowledge and history, museums have recently seen a decline in the number of individuals who walk through the doors of these establishments. While we can safely bet that a number of these art forms will make a comeback one day, we can even safely say theater has been consistent.
We want something real
The point is, we humans are sentimental. We crave real things because we know these items that impact our lives are within the realm of our own reality. So we can watch all the Netflix and Amazon Prime we want, but it isn’t something we can reach out and touch. Real human emotion, hearing someone scream in anger and suffering, hearing someone speak softly, watching someone cry with our two eyes, right in front of us, it is more powerful. In this goal, we need something real, things that we know are happening in real-time. Therefore, live theater won’t ever die, in fact it’s the only thing that’s still standing strong.
What hit us hard?
Deep down in our hearts and minds, we know that life is difficult. Relationships, friendships, grief, tribulations, and the ambitions of a professional life are all things that give way to pain at some point. We love to see struggles and triumphs presented in front of us. Literally, giving us hope, even although we know it is just a story. If you’re a person who yearns for a story of sorrow to happiness, lots of it recommend seeing Waitress at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The main character is called Jenna. She’s a maid as you can tell from her title. She lives in a small remote town and sadly, she falls in love with her husband. She makes pies and she is excellent at it. We follow his life and witness his troubles and strife. In the end, he found out who he really was and what he wanted. He took that step to follow his dream and took all the hardships that came with it. It is performances and productions like these that keep theater thriving. We want something like this to be true in our own lives. To live the way we want, but have the courage to live it.
Dance and music are widely recognised as the most expressive forms of the performing arts. However, they do not hold candles to light up the theatre, where the people are the spectators feel the story in their bones.
