As we prepare for the busy vacation season, foolproof plans are essential to throwing a memorable party everybody will be talking about. Whether it is a casual weekend lunch, a formal dinner, or a fancy cocktail party, you want to ensure the vibe is set, and you are ready to party.
LG STUDIO equipment interior designer and artistic adviser, Nate Berkus, is not only a design expert but also a talented party planner and host.
“The key to minimizing stress during the holiday entertainment season is to keep things simple, and be as prepared as possible,” says Berkus. “Making sure everyone, including the host, is relaxed and having fun are the most important elements of a good party. Be it the food, the décor, and anything in between, nothing feels stuffy or overly complicated.”
Berkus shares his best vacation entertainment tips – from the festive to the practical and obviously at all times fashionable.
It’s fine to leave cooking to others.
Don’t let the undeniable fact that you do not like to cook stop you from throwing a vacation party together. Call your favourite neighborhood restaurant and have them serve it. Pour dishes into lovely plates, plates and bowls. No one will know you ordered!
Make sure your kitchen is prepared.
Fact: the kitchen is finally the command center at any party. Guests love to congregate there, despite your best efforts. Embrace the undeniable fact that people will congregate on your kitchen island, and make it part of the party, whether that’s setting up food or drink containers or adding extra seating. Nothing feels more intimate and welcoming than the kitchen, particularly on vacation.
It’s also important to make smart choices with regards to your equipment, so they can do your job for you – and look good while doing it. LG’s new Black Stainless Steel Studio line of appliances features the latest InstaView fridges, which incorporate a smooth glass front panel that lights up with two quick taps so you can see what’s inside without having to open the door – particularly helpful when you are entertaining. Guests can easily view and take their choice of drinks or snacks; it is a smart way to host.
Prep work is key.
Prepare as much as possible in advance. When you are entertaining, you want to have the ability to greet each guest as they arrive, and be a part of the party. Get your vacation cocktails ready and prepared to serve, open wine and sparkling water prepared at the bar where guests can help themselves. Every horizontal space is a chance, so use your trays, side tables and kitchen island to set up food stations. You want your guests to feel right at home.
Stick to a neutral color scheme.
People think they’ve to reach for the traditional red and green decor, but it is in fact much easier to work with a neutral palette. Use natural materials like wicker baskets and mats, and layer them with metallic accents. Things like brass candle holders and napkin rings will immediately up the glamor factor. Pull the greenery from the garden, and finish your tablescape with a candle.
Mix the seating charcoalQ
If you are doing a sit-down dinner, switch things up by seating the host in the middle of the table, not the end, and plan who sits around them. Your goal is to get people to know one another, and spark unforeseen connections and conversations. And there’s nothing prettier than superbly prepared place cards in every setting. Your guests can bring them too, as a little memento from the evening.
