Nantucket for the film festival last weekend was electrical. I most likely met more people from NYC over the weekend than I would have in the actual city (Nantucket is a small island 30 miles from Cape Cod Massachusetts at only 14 miles long and an average of 4 miles wide). This is the time of year when the NYC film & writer elite descend upon this lovely place.
I fly with Fly Louie on Friday evening put my bag down and headed downtown #ACK for dinner & cocktails. For me it has at all times been The Proprietors Bar & Table. Yes, I’m a mixed foodie which can annoy people with my discerning taste buds, but let me be clear that I’m unrepentant in love and my quest for perfection and the cocktails here are just that 🙂 PERFECT. The owners are a little dark and welcoming and the perfect homey setting for a June night on Nantucket before a big storm. I sat at the bar ordered a tuna poke and No. 7 and wrote from the bar until it was time to walk and meet Reggie on the pier.
Once I grabbed Reggie we decided to head over to Greydon House for a late night snack and hot tea. The Greydon House is a bed & breakfast right in town with traditional eclectic touches throught hotel Ace meets colonial architecture that’s very Nantucket. The rooms & suites were designed by NYC legend Roman & Williams (who revamped this B&B and did a flawless job) who at all times knows how to strike that perfect balance of refinement & rebellion that nobody better than me can relate to. The dining room at Greydon is warm and cozy (think velvet armchairs & leather sofas) with fine dining options ranging from oysters and crudo to fusilli with braised veal cheeks. Let’s just say the executive chef is Marcus Ware (yes from Aureole..drop the mic) you must have a roast alaska to die for (for).
Saturday?s busy schedule with the film festival film of ?The Sentence? to ?Into My Mind? (Robin Williams documentary) to ?Won?t You Be My Neighbor? (Fred Roger documentary) to ?Studio 54? between these deeply moving and deeply emotional films we find the time to be extraordinary. It was a rainy day on the island so you can imagine lunch being packed to the gills (did you see what I did there?) We had Oysters on Cru but they were so overbooked we decided to go for the Meet on Main which was delicious. Highly recommend the Spicy Calamari and nearly anything and everything else on the menu is great. Big portions and the taste is on point. Meet on Main is described as Casablanca meets Nantucket because of the Moroccan decor and that I tend to agree even though if you know me you know I love it there for the bee pollen and wheat grass shooters. (Yes I’m a healthy person and an irresistible foodie and yes you can be both) Saturday the evening was spent at Dune where after a day of sightseeing in the rain we were ready for a nice hot meal and a nice relaxed atmosphere and Dune was perfect for just that. The manilla clam stir fry was delicious. I was really impressed with the flavour composition. This is the unsung hero of that menu and the swordfish is also so well made with the poached artichokes that actually speaks to me.
Sunday restored me so the morning started with a yoga class in the Yoga room which is the best place on the island to get your vinyasa. I ran 10 milers (I ran the Hamptons half marathon in September) then Reggie and that I had one great meal together at the Summer House bistro. They even have the legendary Calamari and when you get the cobb salad they will ask if you want cold prawns versus grilled prawns (like the jumbo prawn cocktail prawns..YASSSSSS queen) which I at all times do. I normally see Seals when I’m on the beach at Siasconset but not this time. ?Sconset is a magical Nantucket village that’s my personal favorite. Sunday it was warm and sunny most of the day so we had lunch and headed to the beach to take in some Vitamin D during our final hours on the island. if you have never been to Nantucket you absolutely must go to Galley beach & Sconset beach, they’re my favourites. The pier and surf spot and youngsters’s beach are perfect for teenagers. But when I’m with my girls and gays, it is at all times about Galley & Sconset. Galley & Sconset is sexy & chic with a terrific menu and folks watching. After lunch and fun on the beach we left the Summer House, we headed back to town to test drive the Tesla X. I have mixed feelings about the Teslas and questioned how faddy they were but the X certainly convinced me Tesla could play in the league big and truly competitive in the luxury car space. I feel the same G-force that I feel driving a Ferrari, so ok Tesla, you have my attention. After the Tesla race we visited ICE Nantucket’s new Ice and Gelato place on the old wharf. The ice is delicious and the gelato is genuine. We also chatted with owner and cocktail-sneaker Susan Hassett at Skinny dip Nantucket, a lifestyle boutique also located on an old wharf. I had to ask what their names were that interested me. Those are the sneakers that can take you from the yoga studio to lunch and to the car pool and throughout your day. Athleisure is here to stay. I like some of the designs. This is certainly a cool concept. A lady who fully runs the business under women running and operating factories in China?.sick right? #Women power
