Every parent believes their child is nice enough to turn pro, despite the undeniable fact that there are hundreds of thousands of other athletes who are far better. Many will move to other cities to chase their dreams and spend hours traveling to become the next superstar. Weekends are reserved for practice, sports and games leaving very little time to enjoy other activities or spend time with friends, family or loved ones outside of sports.
Children become young players and create social “sport” networks, but athletes fall victim to long-term social consequences. In fact, other leisure and school activities were sidelined and then abruptly, all of this came to a halt. It was a day when reality revealed the realization that even playing or turning pro for a Division 1 team, was an unreal dream. Thus, there isn’t any end to young players and families who are heartbroken and those long hours running out beyond belief.
One thing is absolute that young athletes do rigorous training and also need to maintain good grades at school. Refers to the undeniable fact that David Wells grew up in a crime-ridden San Diego neighborhood with a mother who supported him and his siblings by working diverse jobs. Wells spent quite a lot of time in the gym, playing basketball and baseball to spend his time growing up.
Luckily, Wells had the talent to set him other than other young pitchers, which earned him playing opportunities for many Major League teams. Wells confirmed, “It was a dream come true when I was called up to the Yankees because so many great players were playing in the House Ruth Built.” Wells absolutely made his mark in history in 1998 by putting up a perfect game and winning the World Series at the home of one of his favourite athletes to date, Babe Ruth.
BECOME A RETIREMENT ATHlete WHERE SPORT KEEP ME FROM TROUBLE AS A CHILD, I KNOW IMMEDIATELY THE IMPORTANCE OF YOUTH ATHLETICS.
Today, David and his wife Nina dedicate time to their non-profit organization, the Perfect 33 Foundations to help others. Wells stated, “After meeting with a former Navy SEAL and learning that there was certain medical treatment that his insurance didn’t cover, we realized funds needed to be raised to help our veterans get their treatment. There are also needs for their families that aren’t at all times met. We want to help! We also want to help kids by giving them a place to play sports and not being left on the streets because they cannot afford it. Being a retired athlete where sports kept me out of trouble as a child, I know firsthand the importance of youth athletics. I also know that many of our communities are underfunded in this area. We want to give kids the opportunity to have the opportunity to fulfill their dream of becoming a professional athlete. Teen athletics is just like the pros, it includes discipline but also lots of laughs, good stories, and learning what it is like to play as a team and not be egocentric.
David Wells & Tonight’s Host Jimmy Fallon
On Thursday, May 17, Wells hosted a star-studded celebration/fundraiser for Perfect Game’s 20th Anniversary at Sony Hall in New York City. Wells said, “Both Nina and that I are so grateful for tonight. Our Perfect 33 Foundation is partnered with the Puerto Rico Relief Foundation founded by Jorge and Laura Posada. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will benefit both charities. Many of Wells’ former teammates and friends attended as Jorge Posada, David Cone, Mariano Rivera, Berni Williams, Willie Randolph, Ramiro Mendoza, Joe Torres And Judy Steinbrenner. Also, present SNL producer, Lorne Michaels, Host of Tonight’s Jimmy Fallon And Comedians, Pete Davidson, Michael Che And Leslie Jones. Berni Williams and his band played to sold-out crowds.
It’s an amazing way to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Perfect Game. It speaks to who Wells is as a person and not just one of the great Yankees. “When you play together as a team and share the blood, sweat, and tears it takes to win the World Series, the bonds are made endlessly. I’m very grateful for each one of my teammates who played with me who made my dream come true.
