Think back just 5 years ago, and imagine how chocolatey everybody used to be. My TimeHop would remind me of my old Snooky-like skin tone when I logged into Facebook every so often. Luckily in last few years pale skin has been somewhat embraced. More and more people are protecting themselves from the sun entirely to avoid tanning, in addition to the evident aging of the skin.
Although I have a membership to a tannery, I’m not an everyday visitor like most of my friends (both girls and boys). I’m half Hispanic so once I had a tan it went pretty well, and was more of a bronze than orange. Lucky me right? Unfortunately, around the age of 20 I went to a dermatologist to have an unpleasant mole removed. I later learned that these moles were cancerous, and after several surgeries on my calves, they removed all the toxic cells.
It still shocks me that something like skin cancer could occur to someone so young. Also, someone with more olive skin who barely burned in his life. This is why it is so important to protect your skin when exposed to the sun, and have a full body exam once a year.
I now have very sensitive skin, and go to great lengths to stop sun damage. Whether you wear lots of makeup (like me) or not, here are some astonishing products to protect your skin this summer and all year round.
Cerave Spf 50 Body Lotion
I wore this to Coachella in the desert for three days straight with barely any clothing on, and it never burned out at all.
Hourglass Mineral Primer SPF 15
Living in California I in fact wear this everyday under my makeup. Not only does it stop my skin from getting oily all day long, but it also protects my face from burning.
Murad Invisible Perfection Shield SPF 30
For days when I’m outdoors a lot, or going to the beach, I use this in place of the Hourglass primer. It has skincare benefits, blurs imperfections on the skin, and has a higher SPF.
Coola Face Setting Spray SPF 30
This is one of my favourite setting sprays, as it gives me double the protection (together with my primer). I often wear makeup around my neck and sometimes on my chest, and will spray it on too to set it.
Coola Sport Continuous Spray SPF 30 (Available in many scents)
I love that this sunscreen smells astonishing. They have a scent to calm everybody down, and a simple spray bottle is crucial. Also, this sunscreen is not sticky in the slightest, and there’s no white residue.
