You look in the mirror and see that you have more wrinkles on your face at 40 than when you were 39. What can you do to stop, or better yet, get rid of your wrinkles? There are plenty of old wives’ tales about what to do, but here are some scientifically proven ways to combat your wrinkles and smile lines.
Avoid the Sun
I know. It’s hard for everybody. The sun is outwardly public enemy number one for wrinkles. Since it is virtually impossible to stay out of the sun, make sure to wear sunscreen when you go outside even on cloudy days. You do not need to wear SPF 100; wearing SPF 15 or 30 will suffice.
Wearing sunscreen not only helps stop wrinkles, it can even protect you from skin cancer. It’s two for one!
Smoke
Maybe I should list this first. We all know the harm smoking does to our lungs and the rest of our body which should not be too surprising as it causes wrinkles. There are enzymes that break down collagen and elastic which are important components of healthy skin. Do not smoke.
Wrinkle Cream That Works
Here is a list of anti wrinkle cream what really works:
Alpha-hydroxyl acids (AHAs) – these help stimulate collagen production. They help remove dead skin cells and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Retinoids (including Retin-A) –Retin A is the only FDA-approved topical treatment for wrinkles. It comes as recipe cream to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It even repairs sun damage. If you cannot get a prescription, look for a product with Vitamin A because Retinal is a natural ingredient that’s derived from it. Just to warn you it can cause sun sensitivity and all the time wear sunscreen with it.
Topical Vitamin C – Vitamin C has been found to increase collagen production. Not only does it help with collagen but also protects against UVA and UVB rays, improves pigment problems and improves inflammation in the skin. Look for Vitamin C with L-ascorbic acid to soothe most wrinkles.
Idebenone–this is an excellent powerful antioxidant. After just 6 weeks of use, a scientific study showed that 26% experienced reduced skin roughness and dryness, 37% experienced increased hydration, 29% experienced decreased lines and wrinkles, and 33% experienced overall improvement in sun-damaged skin.
Pentapeptides – Pentapeptides, according to the National Institute of Health, can increase collagen production in sun-damaged skin. When applied it stimulates collage production while reducing lines and wrinkles.
Sleep
Yes, sleep. It seems very easy that it is crazy to recommend it, but most of us do not get enough sleep every night. In addition, when sleeping it is advisable to sleep on your back. Apparently, sleeping on your side adds wrinkles to your cheeks and chin. Even worse if you sleep on your stomach it increases your chances of having unattractive furrowed brows.
Diet
- Salmon and other cold water fish contain protein which helps create a nice skin.
- Also, eat lots of vegetables and fruits too. They contain antioxidants that fight damaged skin.
- Soy products are known to protect and heal the skin.
- Stay away from coffee and drink chocolate instead. Coffee dehydrates the skin. Cocoa helps fight sun damage and makes skin feel smoother.
- Water. Drink lots of water to help the skin stay hydrated. If you do not like the taste of water, add lemon or my favourite cucumber. It will make you feel as if you’re having a spa day!
Moisturizing
Yes. It sounds easy, but many of us do not remember to do it during our daily makeup regime. We think that only anti-aging products will help with wrinkles, but a basic moisturizer will do the trick too.
Wash your face
Don’t wash your face too often. It strips away the moisture that your face needs to protect. Use cleanser rather than soap. Also, I only wash my face once a day, and my skin looks healthier once I start doing it.
Conclusion
There are many ways to stop and get rid of wrinkles without having to inject Botox. Take a look at the ingredients and pay attention to an old wives’ tale. They tend to be good and simple to follow. There are so many various ointments to select from too. Just because you are 40 doesn’t suggest you must see it!
