Jessica Alba started her acting career with small roles starting in 1994 finally getting her breakthrough film role, Darling. She also scored the role of Sue Storm in Fantastic Four where she met her husband, Cash Warren. She has been nominated for Golden Globes, People’s Choice Awards and has won several other awards throughout her career. When Alba was pregnant with her first child, she was worried about all the chemicals in baby products and decided to start a company with safer products. Now a well known and successful business, The Honest Company.
Alba is most likely best known for her roles in movies like, The Eye and Valentine’s Day. She has proven to be more of an ass-kicking actress on the big screen. She was recently named one of the richest women in the United States by Forbes Magazine. She is an entrepreneur of a multi-billion dollar company and a mother of two daughters.
The Honest Company is an organic company. The line includes beauty products, bath and body products, and baby products. As of January 2014, Honest products can be found in retail stores throughout the United States. In your neighborhood stores you can find products including Nordstrom, Whole Foods Market, Costco, buybuy Baby and Right Start, amongst others.
Jessica Alba and Christopher Gavigan founded the company together. They want the best products for their homes and families and cannot find what they want in other brands. So, they decided to do it themselves. “We tried to think of all the qualities we want in a dream brand – smart style, sustainability, and great service & comfort, all wrapped up in a passion for social good, tied with a bow of integrity and sprinkled with a bit of naughty fun. ”
The Honest Company’s goal is to free you from a number of tasks by bringing the best family essentials to your doorstep – to simplify your life and bring more joy every day. Our dream is to redefine the “family brand” and create something – with you – that’s better for all families, everywhere.”
The company has a mission of social good which states, “We believe in doing our part”, and we have a “mission to build healthier and safer families. In partnership with you, we are committed to making real change possible, and look forward to inspiring others to do the same. We hope you will join us by taking part in our community, sharing our educational efforts, or purchasing one of our products, to help drive our quest for deeper impact.”
Forbes reports that Alba started the company in 2008 when she was pregnant with her eldest daughter, Honor. She is now the mother of two charming daughters, Honor,7, and Haven,3. She said, “I wanted to create a safe and healthy environment for my daughter, and when I looked around at what was available for me to do so, I couldn’t find the answer. No brand really speaks to me as a modern woman, a brand that is transparent, that uses ingredients that are undeniably safe, but also effective.”
The company is valued at a formidable $1 billion. Alba owns a couple of 15–20 percent stake in a company that sells natural, chemical and hormone free products ranging from diapers and wipes to organic beeswax sunscreen and a $170 vegan leather diaper bag.
Before opening an online retail store in 2012, Alba spent over three years doing research and networking to help improve her business. During that time, he also lobbied in Washington DC to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976.
In the past year, the company generated $150 million in sales and is on course to generate $250 million in 2015. Alba’s business advice after building The Honest Company was “never be the smartest person in the room. There will always be someone smarter to learn from—and that’s a good thing.” He also believes openness to suggestions and feedback greatly contributes to the company’s success.
