Founded as Long Island’s annual “go to” event, this year’s Big Daddy Celebrity Golf Classic kicks off July 17-18 at Huntington’s iconic Oheka Castle, and promises to build a legacy of its own. The event was yet again hosted by Rich “Big Daddy” Salgado, Chairman of the Big Daddy Celebrity Golf Classic and Anzhelika Steen-Olsen, Founder of the SHER organization.
The roster of celebrities from professional sports, broadcast television, and entertainment, continues to grow as the event gets closer. Taking the link this year, amongst others, are actors Michael Strahan, Justin Tuck, actor Hisham Tawfiq, country singer Jillian Cardarelli, Scott Ferrall, John Randle, Jim Trotter, Merril Hoge, Neil O’Donnel, ESPN NHL Night presenter Kevin Weekes, and NFL Network Host Brian Baldinger. Others who didn’t vote included comedians Tracy Morgan, Curtis Martin, Stanley Cup winner Dennis Seidenberg and Jeff Hoffman, founding father of Priceline and chairman of the Global Entrepreneurship Network. A surprise musical guest joined the show’s entertainment at dinner on Monday night.
Co-host, Anzhelika Steen-Olsen pictured here wearing earrings from sponsor David Yurman’s High Jewelry Genesis Collection. This particular one is Seaweed Style Rose Gold and Titanium; 10 carat Pink Sapphire; and Polychrome Sapphire 18 cts for $65k.
Along with the golf outing there will be a SHER Women’s Empowerment Lunch which was a well attended introduction to last year’s event. “We’ve lined up some great new sponsors this year, adding to those already with us,” said Anzhelika Steen-Olsen, SHER founder and co-host of the Big Daddy Celebrity Golf Classic. He expressed his delight at having SoHo from Dior Bloomingdale’s, and David Yurman joining to add to existing sponsor, Arizona Iced Tea. Notable attendees at the luncheon included Brandi Chastain, a two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup winner and Olympic gold medalist, sports coach and broadcaster.
The highlight of the evening was the gala dinner with awards and recognition, together with musical entertainment.
Oheka Castle is the most charming place for the event. A stately, elegant, Guilded Age estate owned by the late Otto Hermann Kahn, this French-style chateau sits at the highest point on Long Island. It boasts astonishing architecture and exquisite landscaped gardens. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the premier destination hotel in Suffolk County. Anzhelika and Rich are proud to host the Big Daddy Celebrity Golf Classic and SHER Women’s Luncheon in such an elegant and historic venue.
As a Long Island event, (Big Daddy is local), this year’s benefactor is a local nonprofit. Pop Earth focuses on providing holistic health services and options for people with special needs (Autism and other developmental disorders). Kids Need More creates opportunities for youngsters, families and young adults battling cancer and disease so they can celebrate life in a safe and positive environment. Once again, Michael Brown, CEO of Empire Auto Group is back with sponsorship support.
“We are excited about the interest and commitment to participation in this year’s Big Daddy Celebrity Golf Classic,” said Salgado. “And we love partnering with all the charities that help those in need”
