Question: Are you a die-hard golf fan or are you lucky with the hole-in-one where you won the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover?
Answer: Oh no, it is all skill. In the immortal words of Pee Wee Herman (from “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure”, when he got off his bike, landed in front of a group of children, jumped up, dusted off, and said…) “I meant to do that.” Yes, I’m a fan. heavy golf. And while I had a good swing on that shot, and hit the ball well, it was very lucky. But sometimes it is better to be lucky than good!
Question: What’s your favourite sport to cover on ESPN and why?
Answer: I actually love all of them. But I lean towards basketball, maybe because I’ve spent most of my life playing it.
Question: I also see you have been doing a little motivational talks. Is this how you give back to youth?
Answer: He. There are so many people who have helped me along the way. I have a duty and responsibility to do the same.
Question: What sport did you play in highschool? Campus?
Answer: Basketball in highschool. It’s the same in college, but not for Old Dominion University. I’m not that good! But I will still make my jump against anyone. And I mean anyone.
Question: Who is your all-time favourite basketball player in history? Do you have a favourite boxer?
Answer: My favourite basketball player in history? Oh wow…. I’ll go David Thompson. He made me an NC State fan growing up (growing up in Chapel Hill, by the way). Boxer? Muhammad Ali.
Question: Would you say this is your dream job?
Answer: Very. Apart from playing bass. In a band. With Prince. But I’m not an excellent musician.
Question: Did you at all times know you wanted to be a sportscaster?
Answer: Not at all times. I made a decision at 11th class that I want to be a journalist. I was in the news for the first 14 years of my career (on radio and TV). But I’ve at all times been a big fan of the sport.
Question: Have you ever felt nervous in front of the camera knowing how many people are watching you every day? You look so cool and picked up in front of the camera.
Answer: Wow, thanks. And I never really thought about everybody watching. Until now. Thank You. Thank you very much! Hahaha, but seriously, I get nervous anticipation, because we spent so much time preparing, writing, researching, writing, and writing some more. When it is time to move on, I’m ready to put on a show and have some fun, you know?
Question: What are your predictions for the Superbowl? Who do you think will make it to the end and who do you think wins
Answer: I’m feeling a Seahawks/Patriots regular season rematch. And I love the Seahawks. But ask me again next week, I may have a different answer.
Question: What do you think the future of Michael Vick will look like next season
Answer: Maybe another backup role. Maybe a few places to start depending on the situation. Not much else.
Question: The Philadelphia Eagles are playing pretty well after making a few decisions to cut probably the greatest receivers in the NFL. Do you think they would be a better team if DeSean Jackson was still around
Answer: Possible. He’s a playmaker, and he is going to widen the pitch. But you still must be capable to give him the ball.
Question: So what do you think the future of the Celtics looks like with everybody healthy?
Answer: this season? Not many. In a few years, with the right pace, you never know. You say the magic word, “healthy.”
Question: Who is your favourite broadcaster to work with on ESPN?
Answer: That’s hard to answer. I believe there is a certain uncertainty when I work with John Buccigross or Robert Flores, but I actually enjoy working with everybody. There are plenty of very talented people here. I learn something every show.
Question: Have you seen anyone in your industry as you move through your career?
Answer: My two main people are Peter Jennings and Bryant Gumbel.
Question: Who are some of the new young players to emerge in the sports news industry?
Answer: Hmmm, that’s a good question. I do not know. I feel like I’m working too much, I do not have much time to just sit and watch.
Question: Since this is the Los Angeles issue of SOCIAL Magazine, where would you rank Kobe Bryant amongst the greatest of all time? Do you think there’s another ring opportunity for Kobe?
Answer: I’ll put it in my top 10. But other rings will be difficult. The Western Conference is tough, and it is hard to see this Lakers team compete.
Question: Ideally, where would you like to be in the next 10 years?
Answer: I assumed I was there. As long as I can escape to a nice golf course in the sun any time.
