The Audi R8 gives drivers the chance to race on the checkered flag
Soon amateur racers will have another vehicle to help them get to the trail of victory after Audi Sport GmbH announced its new Audi R8 LMS GT4 race car. Introduced in New York on April 11, the Le Mans (LMS) class model has been designed and engineered to meet the performance parameters first built for the GT4 European Series.
The rear-wheel drive competitor is based on the Audi R8 Coupe, the marque’s formidable daily driver, and shares 60 percent of its components with the latter. Built on an Audi Space Frame (ASF) chassis, the car body is constructed of aluminum and composite materials and includes a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10 engine that can develop up to 495 hp (varies for specific race requirements) and 405 ft. torque lb. And a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (with paddle shifter) ensures precise shifts. The power train allows for a top speed of 155 mph and acceleration from zero to 62 mph in less than 4 seconds.
While no starting price has been officially announced for the car, the expected price range is between $200,000 and $250,000. Deliveries should start later this year.
