As we pulled into the “Reserved Boat” parking slip, smoke was billowing from the galley Beef Fish Restaurant filling our nostrils with high anticipation. We were nervous to go inside, but as we walked past the outside bar, we saw the bartender cutting up lemons and limes, making fresh lemonade served in jars. It looks satisfying. It was a really hot August day and when we opened the doors to the restaurant, the relaxing environment (in addition to the air-con) cooled our senses. Jack Johnson (my personal favorite) is playing all over the restaurant. That, and the view of the harbor from our table created a beachy yet stylish vibe. We were seated by a smiling waitress, and quickly ordered lemonade which we saw the bartender outside making. They’re fresh and sweet, and absolutely homemade. I made a decision to try French Press Coffee after a long morning, and have thought about it ever since. (I’m a big coffee drinker). The taste is creamy, but not too light, and very rich.
For entrees, we ordered the Hampton Lobster Stuffed Mushrooms and Oysters; both very delicious. At first we were worried that it would not be enough for four people but we weren’t disappointed. The mushroom is of decent size; we were able to cut them into quarters, and the oysters were so rich that four was plenty. The mushrooms melted in our mouths with just the right combination of sweet lobster and salty mushrooms, while the oysters were breaded with a sauce on top that made it just right.
For my main course I ordered the famous Cowfish Burger, cooked rare. With cheddar cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, and onions, the burger is a (big) American take. The Angus beef was juicy and succulent, cooked the way I like it, and the buns were fresh and somehow barely sweet, which added to the overall flavour. French fries are another treat, super thin and seasoned just right. Returning to the boat full and pleased, we noted not only the perfect meal that Cowfish offered us, but the perfect day we had thanks to the wonderful service, happy people and peaceful environment at Cowfish Hampton Bays.
