In men’s fashion, trends come and go, but an item or two of clothing remains popular. One example is jeans.
Jeans have at all times been a major component of most men’s wardrobes. However, that doesn’t suggest that you can wear the same pair year after year, and still look on-trend. Every season, brings a new look, and summer 2017 is no exception.
Old school cutting
The trend for designers into the 70s and 80s seems to have continued. Many are clearly inspired by the iconic 501 style of jeans.
In 2017, you can still buy skinny jeans, but most of the jeans you will see in stores this summer will be straight cut jeans. They will also lose around the buttocks and thighs.
Comfort returns
Most designers have changed the cut of their jeans to make them more snug. There is extra space around the thighs and stomach area. It’s a welcome change for those of us whose sore feet start falling asleep when we sit for more than half an hour.
Higher waist circumference
Another nod to comfort is the incorporation of a higher waistline. No more wearing a t-shirt or longer shirt to stop your boxers from showing, while you sit down.
Back belt
Interestingly, even although you do not actually need them with high-waisted jeans, belts are making a comeback. Most brands have included old-school strait belts with their jeans, or are selling them as an additional. Again, it is a nod to the 80s, the last time this style of belt was popular.
Cut-offs and cuffs
For decades, we have worn jeans that are long-fitting and hemmed in the traditional way. This year, that will change. You’ll possibly see some people cuff their jeans, or cut them at the bottom and let them unravel. The latter is an interesting trend, one that hasn’t been seen before, so it is going to be interesting to see if it takes off or not.
Denim from head to toe
For several years now, designers have been including denim jackets in their collections, but they have not been especially keen. However, it looks like 2017 will be the year of the denim jacket. Sales have been strong, so it looks like the head-to-toe denim look will finally make a comeback.
Distressed jeans
Super light, stonewashed jeans are ubiquitous. This is another 80s trend making a comeback. All of the above trends have been spotted on the catwalks, and are already showing up in stores. However, there will likely be changes as the summer progresses, as retailers determine which styles consumers like best.
