Now that Los Angeles Fashion week is over, it is time to sum up and discuss all the incredible fashion that was showcased and pushed onto the runway!
Following Sue Wong’s show earlier in the week on Monday, October 6th, I can not wait to wrap up the incredible show and ensure all of our readers understand precisely what happened, but none the less for all the other designers showing. incredible outfit for the rest of the week. Now it is time for me to dissect and summarize all my favourite designers for you in small articles so as not to overwhelm you! Hopefully you will look at this insanely talented Los Angeles based designer and get as inspired as I was and am!
Gregory Sanchez
Sanchez took part in Sue Wong’s presentation this Monday evening. You might think it would be difficult to keep up with such an incredible show, but Gregorio Sanchez made sure to keep things running smoothly and the crowd going! The clothing takes on a really lively Cuban style. Sanchez featured lots of high-waisted pencil skirts with full-sleeved blouses tucked inside. She plays with color a lot whether it is bright floral appliques over a solid black pencil skirt or my favourite is a bright tangerine duster which she again added colourful flowers to the front panel and paired it with black and white plaid silk trousers which are so fun . Her entire collection consists of checkered black and white patterns that she manipulates into shorts, trousers and skirts. The models took to the runway wearing 7in. rhinestone-plated stilettos tied around the ankle. It’s an awesome accent to the fun colours she transitions throughout her show. In short, the Gregorio Sanchez show reminds me of an after-5pm drink. inside a Cuban shopping mall. There are colours, there are sass, there are prints and there are florals. The only thing I missed during this show was a nice cold Pina Colada!
Li-Jon’s house
Sculpted couture
Later that night, a real artist and innovative designer showed his talent and drive with an outfit made totally of tiny metal rings. Designer Lia Mira’s creations are very unique. They are all hand crafted like pieces that will really make you wonder how someone could make something like that and how long it took to make just one piece! The show consisted of wonderful short ball dresses, skirts with matching tanks, and even some men’s short sleeve tops and ties, all fashioned from tiny metal rings screwed together. She took some of her designs to the next level by adorning them with crystals and chainmaille fringe that hung over the top of the model as a top and rocked so superbly as it graced the runway. One of my favourite looks is an all-silver halter top combined with a silver and crystal ring. Lia Mira styled this top with a leather mini skirt and black pumps. The entire collection is quite a sight to look at and what really struck me was the craftsmanship that went into customizing each bit and building the lower back, bends and cut all while using tiny metal rings as tempera.
Betsy Johnson’s 50th Anniversary Collection
A name we all know and love, Los Angeles Fashion Week does small-scale presentations of Betsy’s creations throughout her design career. With a 6-part presentation inside the lobby of the attractive Taglyan Complex, fashion week attendees can enter and take pictures and view Johnson’s astonishing creations over the course of his design career. The presentation began with her 80’s design with the mannequin wearing a layered metallic gold tutu skirt with a pink strapless lace dress that once more, over a teal sequined top. This then takes us to a more 90s look with a vintage floral jumpsuit layered with aa gold bodice. The next look is a bit edgier and darker with Betsy Johnson’s iconic spider print knit skirt with a transparent, motto-style jacket with black zippers and details. This next look is a little more mod, with a mini dress, cardigan, and polka dots. The final look is two very fun and up-to-date parts. Pastel pink outfit with full sleeves and black piping. Overall, the look is spot on and lives up to the Betsy Johnson name. I’m sad I did not in fact get the chance to meet the stunning lady myself but seeing her outfit up close and in person was so much fun!
