Pacific Coast Highway
Before going on an adventure, make sure to prepare for the trip. You may find an area where you want to stop, take pictures, and relax while taking in the views. This route is usually a prominent feature in movies, television shows, and commercials. However, much of its beauty is based on the contrasting and changing landscapes of small towns, large metropolitan areas, classic beaches, Spanish Colonial sites, state parks, and the unforgettable Redwood Forest.
Yosemite National Park
Take a walk in Yosemite National Park astonishing and provides some of the most lovely scenery in the country. Among these is the famous Tioga Road, which runs 39 miles from Crane Flat to Tioga Pass. The road is generally closed during the winter months, so make sure to plan ahead. However, it will typically be open from May to November. The most popular route is the Yosemite Valley Loop, which offers astonishing views but is usually less crowded than the others. Wowona Road has access to some of the best hiking trails in the park, so it is an amazing trail to stretch your legs and walk. During spring, travelers driving along El Portal Road can enjoy views of the wildflowers in bloom. If you have extra time, it’s highly recommended to park and go rafting. If history is your thing, do not miss Highway 49. It travels 100 miles along the Gold Rush route and passes historic mining towns along the way.
Stop
When driving along the coast, several towns are must-sees. San Luis Obispo, for example, is a historic town with lots of activities, including horseback riding, hiking, zip lining, and surfing. This city is bound to slow you down and force you to enjoy the weather as you stroll downtown. After that, get in the car and head to Morro Bay. This small town has a waterfront walkway to Morro Rock which is over 500 feet high. This iconic landmark provides great photo opportunities, particularly at sunset. You can even enjoy the wildlife as the area is a popular spot for sea otters and other animals. Once you are all set, head to the Cayucos, where surfing and cattle farming are a way of life. This is an amazing place to stop and pick up some beach themed art and try some of their world famous smoked salmon. When you do, you’ll realize that there’s never enough time. Simply put, an auto tour in California is a guaranteed adventure.
