You never too old for skateboards. Well, maybe that’s not fully true – but the generation that grew up on skateboards are now having kids and hopefully teaching them how to trucks and wheels. From a sweet little cruise on the road to taking a Slurpee from doing kickflips at your local skate park – there are many reasons why you should keep on skating. And the ground below is a superb place for skateboarding. There is a dedicated skate park set aside, but any area with lots of concrete and a few stairs will work fine. Grinding in New South Wales
Australia’s first state has a wide range of different places to get your ollie. On Sydney’s North Beach is the Mona Vale Skate Park, which is a great spot skateboards. This park is appropriate for all skill levels, so pros will have as much fun as newbies.
Move further north to the Mid North Coast and you have a brilliant skate park at Bateau Bay. This park really has the deepest bowl in Australia, which is four meters deep. It also has an enormous vertical drop for thrill seekers.
For those living on the outskirts of Sydney, Wollongong is in a prime location. The Holborn Skate Plaza has numerous ramps, ladders and bowls for you to carve.
Getting Technical in Victoria
Home to the most metropolitan city in the country – Melbourne, Victoria has plenty of skate parks for the adrenaline junkies amongst you. In the middle of the city lies Fitzroy bowl, a Melbourne establishment. If you are a little farther north, on the outskirts of the suburbs, visit Newbury’s skate park which has lots of cool features. Alternatively, try the gardens at Fawkner or Coburg which are quite popular.
If you are a little farther west in the state, then Geelong has an oceanfront skate park with lots of ledges, ramps, and rails to keep you busy. A little further west to the Otways is Lorne park, which has a charming deep bowl for those big tricks.
Going Wild in the West
If you are in wild Western Australia, you might believe there’s nowhere to skate! You could not be farther from the reality as even Perth packs some parks to be pleased with. That Kwinana New Skate Park it has bowls, ramps and a few slippery rails for some sweet grinding action. The Wanneroo Showgrounds skate park will also keep you on your toes – featuring deep bowls, kickers and quarters.
Head North to Queensland
Finally, let us take a look at Queensland. Brisbane has some radical skate parks to be pleased with. Weinam Creek Park is worth the look, with mini ramps, kickers and ledges to pull off some tricks. Ashgrove also has a swell area, even though it’s a bit small so if it is crowded you may must wait your turn.
