Hello lovely, shining
skin.
As a makeup artist, I love it when the seasons change. It makes playing with thrilling new colours and products even more fun. As we leave the winter months behind, in favor of March and April, it is the perfect time to change up your makeup and embrace your inner golden goddess. Regardless of where you fall on the colour spectrum, you can still perk up your skin and encourage glow from within. The foundation for lovely skin is well-groomed skin. For best results, remember to clean and moisturize your skin twice a day. The following tips and products are some of my favorites to use on myself and clients for lovely and vibrant springtime looks.
Sunless tanning has come a long way since the beginnings of streaky elbows, acne-prone faces, and orange-stained palms. In my years as a licensed cosmetologist and cosmetologist, I have experimented with many products including sprays, lotions, mousses, towels, and creams. While every kind offer different pros and cons, one of my current go-to products is the Phenomenal 2-3 Week Tan by Vita Liberata. Applied to skin with a tanning mitt, the formula lathers, is generally odorless, absorbs, dries quickly, and offers snug clean application. For optimal results, remember to exfoliate the skin the day before. Also, simply because your skin looks exposed to the sun doesn’t suggest it is safe from sun damage, so remember to wear sunscreen all the time. To increase the age of your tan, avoid harsh scrubs and soaps, and moisturize daily.
Once your skin is correctly prepped and you’ve got applied your chosen foundation, the cheeks are the perfect area to add a wash of color. (Whether you are wearing tinted moisturizer, BB cream, cream, liquid foundation, or powder, ensure to find a tone that in fact matches your skin. A tone that’s too dark will create an unrealistic look that will not compliment your look or look great. realistic.) Because they sit on a higher plane of the face, your cheeks are normally one of the first areas to react to the sun by tanning or burning. Since we all know the effect sun damage can have on skin, it is best to imitate a natural tone with bronzer, blush, and highlighter—my three staples for an easy glow.
I at all times start with bronzer, which can be applied under the cheekbones, on the temples, along the jawline, and over the top of the forehead near the hairline to contour the face. To create a more natural brown color, I use a bronzer with a matte finish. For a more festive look, bronzers with shimmer are available. Some of my favorites are Hoola from Benefit, Laguna from NARS, Faux Tan from Bare Escentuals and Milk Chocolate from Too Faced. When applying powder bronzer, you can use an angled cheek contour brush for more precision. Remember to blend the darker colours gently for a flawless finish.
After you have warmed up and defined your face with bronzer, it is time to soften your cheeks with blush. Depending on your skin tone, coral, apricot, pink, and peach tones can be applied with a blush brush over bronzer. Some of my favourite shades are from Nars and Milani, which are fairly priced, whether you are a drugstore beauty shopper or a regular at the cosmetics counter. For the most natural application, apply blush closest to the hairline first and slowly work your way up to your face. Avoid getting too near the sides of the nose and mouth. A light wash of color is all you need to wake up your skin. To even out the rest of your face, you can apply a small amount of blush to your forehead, nose and chin.
To finish off your pretty glow, add a touch of highlighter just above the blush. When I’m working with a dense cream like RMS Beauty or a liquid like Revlon Photoready Skinlights, both of which are absolutely attractive, I take a small amount and gently work it into the skin with my fingers or a small brush to build up the intensity gradually. A powder highlighter like Candelight from Too Faced can be applied with a soft angled brush over the same area. This final step will help you achieve a visually plump cheek area, which is the final touch for a wonderful and radiant complexion.
