Candace Cameron Bure, star of “Full House” and its “Fuller House” spin-off, appeared in front of and behind the camera lens while filming season four of “Fuller House”. In addition, the actress recently released her first kids’s book, Candace Center Stage.
In an exclusive interview with SOCIALthe New York Times Best-Selling actress and writer shared her inspiration for the book and spoke about her directorial debut in the upcoming season of “Fuller House.”
Congratulations on your kids’s book debut! What inspired you to write a kids’s book?
CCB: Thank You! I’ve dreamed of writing a kids’s book for 20 years, ever since my daughter was born. Reading with and to my kids is one of my favourite pastimes. Those moments together were so special with lasting memories. I’m so excited for moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, babysitters and friends to make those kinds of memories with the little ones in their lives.
How much did you like the characters in the books growing up?
CCB: Not as much as you might think considering we have the same name. The character Candace in this book has more of my daughter Natasha’s traits and personality! She is robust, brave, passionate, and hates to be wrong!
Is it harder to write memoirs or kids’s books?
CCB: They are just different. Writing memoirs and trade books is much more time consuming because of length. However, writing a kids’s book is not as easy or as easy as you might think. Since you have limited words, every word counts! Each word must be effective and in sync with the illustration. Both are very useful but writing a kids’s book is unquestionably more FUN!
When parents read this book with their kids, what can you expect from it?
CCB: In the end I hope parents will recognize and enjoy the time they spend together. There are also small lessons in this book that parents can share with their kids, such as working hard, being persistent, being kind to everybody even if they aren’t nice to you, and being yourself, even if you seem different from others.
What advice would you give parents who may have kids who do not necessarily mix into the classroom as in this story?
CCB: Encourage your kids to be themselves because God has made each of us unique, created in His image. No two of us are the same, even if we are twins! We all need to learn to follow rules, but we do not have to follow other people’s expectations just to make them feel more snug.
What can you tell us about your directorial debut in season four of “Fuller House?”
CCB: It was so satisfying! I had wanted to direct for a long time, but had to overcome my own fear of stepping out of my comfort zone in addition to sticking to my requests for approval. It’s as natural as anything I’ve ever done and that I look forward to directing many more episodes and shows in the future.
Candace Center Stage available in stores and online, and the fourth season premiere of “Fuller House” will hit Netflix December 14.
