Jason Christopher Peters has been in the fashion industry for thirteen years now. With modeling and designing under her belt, there are such a lot of charming things that she has come across and even more charming things that have come her way.
Her passion all started around the sweet age of 3 when she first started sketching dress designs with crayons and paper. Inspiration came to him after watching award shows and contests such as Miss America and Teen USA with his adoptive mother, Dolores Mae Peters. She, in addition to her grandfather, became the biggest influence on her interest in fashion from her early years.
While sketching was one of the first things he did when he was a child for fun, today’s designer started his career in the world of fashion as a model. Her exposure is endless, opening many doors in addition to opportunities that she is not only blessed with but also humbled by. She shared with us why she loves models so much, “When I walk in runway shows or get photographed for magazines, a totally different side of me emerges! Like this, there’s Kanye and then there’s Kanye West; Beyoncé and Sasha Fierce. I enjoy playing every kind of various characters as models; it is like therapy i guess you could call it fashion therapy? If it is really called fashion therapy or something else, all that’s known is that we absolutely love it!
As character transformations occur in every show, personas break out of unknown or hidden models, but whatever they’re, when they come to life, it is something great. For many it can lead to greater opportunities in modeling or like Peters it can open doors that involve designing. Since her first fashion show in November 2001, her career as a designer has taken off and there appears to be no way to stop it.
She had showcased her designs during NY fashion week at the Esco Club which was successful with an enormous audience to add to the momentous night. The model for the show came out of “FU” Miley Cyrus performing French Montana on the theme “no matter what anyone thinks of you, we are all beautiful and equal in every way; sometimes you just have to say “FU” to people”, as Peters explained. Tributes also went out to controversial subjects such as Michelle Obama’s letter to Kanye West painted on one male model’s body, another with a photo of gay couple Kordale and Kaleb from Atlanta, GA with their charming kids and female models walking the runway in makeup. awesome with closed eyes. None of this would have been possible without the team of makeup artists Diana Marguiles, illustrators of Maurice body paint and hair by Hair and The City and Lynne Schilling. Talk about an empowering show!
As her empowerment grew, her inspiration continued to grow for her work as it came from everything, and even although she was heavily influenced by today’s Japanese, Greek and Portuguese culture, she could never forget her pin bear. That’s what goes back to all of her clothing lines and illustrations; as he called it “bear mania”. They were first made for herself, when she wanted to make some accessories but after wearing them during NYFW people started going crazy over them. It became something he had to manifest for others to have. “I want everyone to feel good and have their inner happiness shine when they wear the pin,” said Peters.
So what’s next for this talented, ambitious and extraordinary model and designer that you might want to know? Never in her life did she imagine to be modeling and designing for 13 years but she took it by force and did it. He just debuted his men’s line at Zicana Gallery this past February, his women’s and men’s ready-to-wear line, baby line, his “People Like Us” Fashion Tour set to launch soon across the US and a kids’s and maternity line in the Fall. 2014, the probabilities are endless. We should all eagerly wait and see what else he has in store for the world.
