Initially undecided on what field he would end up in, Rider University Computer Information Systems graduate Christopher Chin has found his place in the beauty industry offering eyelash extension services years later.
After graduating, he entered the computer field following in his father’s footsteps, which ultimately made him realize that his decision to enter the industry was for all the wrong reasons. Opportunities came along his way over the years, such as the Purchasing Coordinator position he had in 2006 with a company that finally decided to downsize in October 2010, as the position was no longer available. Like any passionate person, Christopher felt that what he needed was an area that would spark his interest and once unleashed, he would do anything to make that vision a reality.
Continuously trying to find work after that, she landed a part-time position at a medical center for a man who had just started his business. Working at the back of the business, Christopher’s interest in permanent cosmetics began to develop. It was something out of her element and positively not an area she had in mind, but she kept asking herself, “Can I study and be a part of the beauty industry?”. He soon realized that he really could.
With the guidance of an experienced technician, she enrolled at the Beau Institute in Mount Laurel to become a licensed permanent cosmetic technician in New Jersey in less than a month. Using the skills she learned during her training, she started building her clientele by performing procedures within the medical center, ultimately leading to eyelash extension procedures. “It is a matriculation art form and requires quite a lot of patience. Again, I do not know if I can do it or see myself doing it. I made a decision to learn it, because I knew it would add to my skills. Plus, not many guys do it, so I assumed I could be unique and stand out from the crowd.” Adding another skill under her belt, her boss at the time sent her to Xtreme Lashes where she attended a training course, earning another license in the beauty industry, as an Xtreme Lashes stylist. While she received all the hands-on experience and learned a lot through the medical center, she knew she had to pursue her own craft in September 2012.
Today you can find Christopher self employed as a Freelancer, offering eyelash extension services mainly in Central Jersey with an open mind to many opportunities elsewhere. To continue to develop her skills, she is looking to continue adding to her list of certifications, such as her current enrollment in the Salon Professionals Academy for cosmetologist program.
She has found that what she is doing now for her career has been relentlessly giving her the spark she missed in her previous jobs, outside of the beauty industry. He has many goals for his future business, “My biggest dream is to work in a medical setting, for example a plastic surgeon’s office. I want to continue to offer my services to improve and continue to make people smile. This is my passion and I will continue to grow and adapt to different beauty trends.”
