- Prepare your kitchen tools such as a paring knife, cutting board, colander and two large bowls, with one bowl stuffed with cold water. Always wear a dark apron and avoid wearing a white shirt when preparing pomegranate, otherwise the preparation gets messy with all its runny and soggy arils.
- Wash the pomegranate in cold water and dry it using a clean towel.
- Using your sharp paring knife, make a shallow cut around the top center of the pomegranate, where the crown-shaped stem should be. Avoid cutting the skin too deep to stop injury to the arils beneath the skin.
- Pull off the top center where you made your opening cut to disclose the inside of the pomegranate. Look for the white membranes separating the aryls. The white membrane will serve as your guide for printing lines into quarters or dividing a pomegranate into pieces.
- Tear off these pieces by pulling them one by one with your finger.
- After that, carefully remove the pomegranate from each half, and place it in a large bowl of cold water.
- Discard any excess white film that floats to the top of the cold water, and drain the water from the arils using a strainer to enjoy in this recipe.
