Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988, in St. Mary’s Parish. Michael on the Caribbean island of Barbados. He was the eldest of three kids, born to Monica Fenty, an accountant, and Ronald Fenty, a warehouse supervisor. Rihanna’s education was handicapped by her father’s struggles with alcohol and cocaine addiction and her parents’ marital problems; they divorced when he was 14 years old.

In January 2005 Rogers set Rihanna up with an audition for Def Jam Records and its new president at the time, legendary rapper Jay-Z. “I was in the lobby just shaking,” he recalls. However, once Rihanna started singing, she regained her composure. “I remember looking everyone in the room in the eye while I was singing, and in that moment, I wasn’t scared,” he said, “But as soon as I stopped singing, I was like, “Oh my God, Jay-Z is sitting down. right in front of me.”
The rapper was just as amazed by Rihanna’s astonishing voice and powerful charisma as Rogers was two years earlier, and he signed her right away. “We made a few Godfather joke,” recalled Jay-Z, “We said the only way he could leave was through a window.” He has since followed the rapper and switched from label Def Jam to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
