If you have been having a hard time lately, for whatever reason, do not despair. Life is full of ups and downs but there are numerous things you can do to turn the odds in your favor and begin taking back control. If you are sick of being miserable and want to feel your best for once, here are some mental health boosting tips to help you get back to feeling like yourself again.
-
speak about it
Talk to a friend or family member about the things you are struggling with right now. There is nothing weak or “unmanly” about feeling emotions. As cliche as it sounds, there’s true power to get in touch with your emotions and it takes a real man to have the ability to share his feelings with the people who matter most. Whether you need comfort or a solution, your loved ones will thank you for reaching out to them.
-
Take a break from social media
You do not have to pack up social media for good, but if you are having a hard time right now, why do not you try a little digital detox? Instead of staring at a screen, get outside and watch the sun set. Walk through the forest and breathe fresh air. Be in the moment and forget about what the rest of the world is doing. Focus on you.
-
Get your butt to the gym
Whether you want to join a gym or not, you must start exercising. It’s hard to get enough exercise when you are feeling down, but sarcastically, exercise is one of the best medicines for depression and anxiety! Start exercising and stick to it. When you start to lose weight and get fit, you’ll feel far better about yourself. When you exercise, you release endorphins and this triggers an emotional response in the brain related to positive feelings. Yes! Science!
-
Read some positive literature
There are plenty of self-help books out there, but even if you are not into non-fiction, you can find some really uplifting stories. Reading is a highly underrated hobby that can work wonders for your mental health. Treat yourself to an escape while educating yourself at the same time. They say the perfect thing about reading is never wasting time – you are at all times learning something new. The feeling of accomplishment when you finish another book is at all times priceless.
-
Love yourself – literally
When depressed, often the last thing on your mind is sex or masturbating, however, the mental and physical health benefits of doing so shouldn’t be underestimated. Consider it medication and move on. Seriously, buy a butcher lamp and treat yourself to some TLC. If you are embarrassed by the thought, do not be. That’s your secret. And besides; the dopamine, oxytocin, endorphins and testosterone that your body releases during ejaculation will make you feel astonishing!

Find your passion
It’s time to let go of the fear of what other people might think. If you want to write poetry, paint Warhammer, knit a scarf, or draw a unicorn, do it! You need to find your passion. You do not have to be great at something or make a living off of it to enjoy it. Find a hobby and commit yourself to trying something you have at all times loved. Don’t care what other people think of you. This yours life! So live your way.
