Changing your makeup routine is the most chilling act. Everyone has their own product, and a certain way they like to do their makeup trying to find an absence of better words, “just like them.” As a makeup artist, I love trying new things, whether it is a trend, or simply a different color. However, I often find that many of my looks tend to be very similar, even though I believe I’m experimenting myself. Since it is the new year, I’ve been trying to fully change my appearance, and what looks “different” to me. This often means thinking outside the box, and searching to outside forces for inspiration. Here are some ways to get out of your comfort zone this new year.
Select an object and Copy it
The day I made a decision to try this, I was in fact eating Doritos Locos Tacos (Cheese Nachos to be exact). On this particular day, tacos looked really colourful to me, and I believed I should make a taco face! Of course I meant taco-inspired makeup, so I opened up my green contacts (lettuce), and went for bright orange (shell), yellow (cheese), and red (tomato). Tie it all together with brown lip color, and fake polka dots in brown (like the flecks on a taco shell). It does not must be food, but just look around you and find something you can recreate.
Use Different Tools
There is no right and wrong way to use makeup tools. Sure, each brush is labeled for a different use, but that does not imply we must follow the label. Take a brush that you normally use on one part of your face and try applying an unfamiliar product with it. You might be surprised by the results, and fully in love with the new look.
Find Beauty Influencers who have similar features
When I had red hair, I would often search hashtags for redheads to see what they looked like. I can see generalizations about what things might look good on me without even trying them. The same goes for eye color, skin tone, and each feature you can think of.
Take a Peek at the Runway
The season’s leading makeup trends often come off the runway. Have a favourite designer? Find out what they’re doing on the runway beautyfully, and try turning it into something wearable for you.
The most vital part of trying something new is to do it without fear. Let your individuality come out, and your creative side come out. Makeup is not permanent, so what better way to celebrate yourself than to test the waters with how you look.
