The time has come for us to finally discuss the extraordinary plague that has swept the world. The era of lounge queens and sportswear fashionistas. Throughout my years of styling, I’ve come across plenty of ladies who claim to be fully into fashion, style, and the latest trends, yet you consistently see them wearing leggings with loose fit sweaters or gym gear around town. It’s time to get up and take another 5 minutes, if that, in the morning to be the fashionista we know you can be. Below are reasons I often come across, whether through style shows or from my friends in general, why the choice was made to wear casual and athletic clothing over more flattering chic clothing.
I do not have much time in the morning to prepare clothes.
This reason is one that does not make any sense to me. If we turned the clock back to the day before when you were preparing and took the time to look through your closet or dirty clothes basket to find your favourite pair of leggings and top or your famous Lululemon sweatpants and jacket, we could take a second to change. our choice. I personally believe that at the same time, one can open a drawer, take out a pair of jeans or shorts of your choice and then grab an easy blouse or t-shirt. If your closet is as organized and tidy as it should be, going to your favourite lounge or gym can get replaced with a tidier, more fashionable look.
I’m just not good at dressing myself.
Fashion and style can be very intimidating, and that I entirely understand that, but you must have some sort of knowledge of your own style to truly go out and buy the things you have already got in your closet. If you are one of those people who is not interested in fashion or following current trends, there are a number of things you can do to stay presentable. To get started, go and buy a pair of good, basic jeans. I personally recommend dark denim that fits well. Dark denim jeans can be paired with a wide range of tops and shoes so you do not have to think too hard about pairing them. Second, we should try to get some basic bosses. I suggest buying solid color t-shirts, blouses, and sweaters, that way you do not have to worry about mixing prints and textures. A solid-colored chiffon blouse is ideal with dark denim jeans for going out on the weekends and through the week and trying on a sweater on a cold day and a t-shirt on a warm day.
I just do not care about how I look, I’m just running out of time for a second.
This reason is the one that bothers me the most! Wherever you go and for how long, a presentation can say a lot about you as a person, your self-worth, and can ruin quite a lot of opportunities for you. When you go out in public, you are never sure who you might meet or see on your way to your destination. Many times I meet old friends, clients or co-workers in public. You should all the time be on your A-game and never let them see you sweat. Constantly wearing casual clothes gives the impression of being lazy and you do not really care about how you look. This can easily translate to you not caring about other people, your job and the things around you. Constantly wearing workout clothes but not working out draws more attention to the weight you are not losing and you seem to want to be someone you are not.
I understand that being a fashionista is not everybody’s goal in life and that I can accept that. One thing I can not accept is that everybody does not have the opportunity to look neat and classy without spending a fortune and a complete morning doing it. There is a saying, ‘Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.’ I know for a indisputable fact that no more than 30% of the female population wants to become a personal trainer or an established sofa potato. Take a day to get entirely dressed in the morning and watch your self-esteem change. The compliments you will receive won’t only make your day better, but how you feel about yourself should make you think twice before putting those leggings back on to go to the grocery store or out with friends.
