Have you ever wondered why you feel so relaxed when you walk barefoot on the sand and splash on the beach? Have you ever thought about why walking barefoot on the grass in your yard works like an antidepressant? This question popped into my curious brain a few times and prompted me to study why this is the case. So here is the secret behind this God given natural anti-depressant – the concept of grounding/grounding. The concept of touching the earth barefoot is called grounding/grounding. Walking barefoot on dirt, grass, sand, or concrete is grounding and its effect is maximized when the surface is wet or damp. The human body consists of cells that have electrical energy. Positive electrons accumulate in our body in the form of free radicals. These free radicals are a group of atoms that drive the aging process and are responsible for numerous diseases. So to balance this positive charge, our body needs an abundant supply of negative charge. Earth is a natural source of negative electrons and our bodies are designed in such a way that these negative electrons are distributed from the feet to all parts of the body. But we block our bodies from coming into contact with mother earth by using plastic or rubber footwear, carpets and rugs. Our ancestors, centuries ago, were healthier and lived longer than we do. Well, where there is a will, there is a way. So, read on!! First, ditch your plastic and rubber footwear and buy a good pair of leather footwear. Plastic and rubber are insulators and block negative ions from coming into contact with your body, whereas skin is a good conductor and allows electrons to go through it. So you are wearing those shoes and at the same time, you are in contact with the earth. Second, invest in a grounding mat. You can put this near your computer desk, otherwise you can even sleep on it to ground yourself. Thirdly, reduce your use of WIFI and cell phones (if possible) as they increase the buildup of free radicals in the body. Try walking barefoot for a couple of minutes a day on grass or sand or whatever grounding medium you choose.
