How do hormones play a role in weight gain/loss?
Our hormones play a key role in our ability to maintain a healthy weight in both men and ladies. Balancing key hormones like estrogen, testosterone, progesterone and thyroid not only affects weight but also other issues like fatigue, brain fog, depression, hair loss and sleep problems.
How do hormones affect aging and how do they differ between men and ladies?
The effects of decreased hormones in both men and ladies will generate similar primary concerns but may be explained differently by men and ladies. Men may express their frustration as feeling “not in their game anymore,” or not feeling as “strong” as they were a few years ago and having trouble losing belly fat. Women may express typical menopausal symptoms related to hot flashes, inability to sleep, weight loss or interest in sex.
For women in their 20s/early 30s, what would you recommend as the first step in an aging prevention routine?
It’s never too early to take charge of your health. If something does not look right, seek professional guidance. We cannot stop it if we do not act early. When I see a patient, the most vital thing I can do for that patient is listen. We know our bodies better than anyone else so the time I spend with my patients is listening to what they’ve to say. Hormonal decline starts in our 30s and signs of aging begin to show.
When it comes to beauty from the inside out, what are the key factors that can help slow the aging process?
Gut health is a significant factor. Too often I see patients who think that certain stomach-related processes are just normal for them when in fact they can indicate otherwise. Stomach is the key to our overall body health. We can do all the right things like good nutrition, avoiding processed foods, exercise, sleep and supplements, but if our stomach is not functioning properly, patients won’t see the benefit of all their good work.
What is the best grooming to ask of a man?
Some of the top treatments requested by men are hormone replacement, weight loss, nutrition guidance, stem cell treatment for hair loss, and sports related injuries.
What is the best treatment asked of a lady?
Some of the top treatments requested by women are weight loss, hormone replacement, cosmetic procedures like Mesotherapy for cellulite and skin rejuvenation, Ultherapy for skin tightening, Clear and Brilliant for skin resurfacing and pore reduction, Botox and diverse fillers.
How do you create a custom weight loss plan for your patients?
First, I listened to what they had tried before to see what worked or did not work. I also get a taste of their personal likes and dislikes in terms of food. I then do Lab work, which is essential for patients who claim to have tried everything and to no avail. This brings us back to hormonal imbalances or perhaps allergies, gut problems and genetic testing, which gives me detailed, personalised information on each patient.
Botox used to be go to to treat hyperhidrosis until MiraDry was introduced a few years ago. Is it safe to fully remove sweat glands from the armpits? Are the results permanent?
Less than 1% of sweat glands are under the arms. In addition, the side effect is reduced/decreased hair growth under the arms.
Ultherapy is a treatment to help tighten aging/sagging skin. Are the results permanent or need additional treatment for maintenance?
Ultherapy is a superb treatment for skin tightening and lifting. The results are natural and last up to two to three years. I believe this is probably the greatest treatments to not only tighten, but also to stop sagging skin. But like all cosmetic procedures, it is best performed by a professional who understands the skin. I perform all cosmetic procedures for my patients myself. We have used Ultherapy successfully for face, decolletage and sagging skin above the knees.
