Heroes come in all sizes and shapes. Sometimes, they come with a helmet and cleats. When interviewing New York Giants quarterback Jameel McClain, the focus was on him and his career.
- How McClain was picked up by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2008 after playing football for Syracuse University.
- He was the only rookie free agent to make the 53-man roster.
- The number of games he started and how many tackles he recorded at the end of every season.
- His quick recovery from a spinal cord injury which should have been a career ending injury.
- Lastly, how he was dropped from the Ravens but picked up again by the Giants.
But for somebody who has an incredible story behind her success and has every right to brag and brag about how she makes it, she’s more concerned about bringing more attention to her book bag drive than the rest.
McClain’s bag drive took place at Jersey City Modell’s Sporting Goods where he took pictures, signed autographs, and most significantly, made a difference in these kids’ lives.
“I enjoy giving back and that I know youth is everything. That’s how the world will be a better place. We at all times speak about change but the best way to make change is to start from the bottom and that is with the children,” McClain explained.
He went on to describe other charity events he has sponsored including full dinners provided to 53 families, Easter egg hunts, coat walks and summer camps. Growing up in North Philadelphia, she knows what it is like to don’t have anything, from sharing clothes to sharing a bed, she’s experienced so young.
Now that he has been blessed as a “disinterested man who defies the odds,” whatever he can do to give back to the community, he will. That is the definition of a role model, someone who takes responsibility for caring for young people and helping those in need. He wants everybody to know that there’s hope and to make a difference, our hope must be strong.
