It’s about that time ladies and gentlemen. Yes! You guessed it. Debate time, where we football fans defend our opinions until we run out of breath, our faces turn red and there are not any more statistics to spit on. Get ready for some contentious conversation, but first, let’s all come together as we tally up the numbers. Then we can determine which quarterback has performed the best in OUR times.
Super Bowl XLV. February 6, 2011. Mark this date to be known as the deliverance of the beast. On this day, Aaron Rodgers led his beloved Green Bay Packers to victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers 31 to 25. Since then, Rodgers has done nothing but pile up yards to add to his career stats. 2011 was his best season with 45 TDs, just 6 INTs, 310 yards per game and threw for 4,643 yards with a QBR of 122.5.
Now in the middle of the 2014 season, his stats are starting to look a lot like his “best season” stats. Rodgers led the NFL in TDs with 32 of those and only 3 INTs, averaging 277.1 yards per game. He currently passes for 3,325 yards. Did I mention he hasn’t pitched a house to the NT in two years? Repeat. Aaron Rodgers hasn’t picked at Lambeau Field since December 2, 2012. I know what you are thinking. No, I have not forgotten the New England Patriots hottie QB. Let’s talk Brady. Tom Brady is a very nice guy with such a perfect life that you start having a love-hate relationship with the guy simply because he is so good. Crazy right? As if going to the Super Bowl twice in three years wasn’t enough. The man had to win it too. Early in the season, Brady struggled in the first few games. Sports analysts say the time has passed. He wanted to disagree with 28 TDs, 6 INTs, an average of 270.2 yards per game and a 101.1 QBR. And just like that, the New England Patriots went first again in the NFC East. Someone gave the man a high five.
How can you forget Peyton Manning?! Easy. I don’t. There’s absolutely no way the NFL can debate the “greatest QB” and forget to mention Peyton Manning. From his goofy personality, entertaining commercials, and long-running awesomeness, deep down in every football fan’s heart, we’re rooting for Manning to earn a second Super Bowl ring. What happened last year against the Seattle Seahawks was terrible, but he appears to be coping well. How can you ask? You mean besides him passing for 3,737 yards with 36 TDs, 9 INTs, 311.4 yards per game, and a QBR of 107.8? By leading his Denver Broncos to another shot at going to the Super Bowl and walking away with rank under their belt this time around. Omaha!
Three elite midfielders. All by 9-3 notes. Each lead their division. Numbers do not lie. So tell me, who was the best quarterback of 2014?
