If you are trying to find the perfect California weekend getaway, consider choosing Lake Tahoe as your destination. It’s not just for outdoor enthusiasts—Lake Tahoe, particularly the city of South Lake Tahoe, offers a number of fun and entertainment for a number of different people. The very first thing that came to mind when I first thought of Lake Tahoe was, obviously, the lake itself, which is just beautiful. The Sierra Nevada Mountains are very charming. My point is, it is totally worth going just to see how charming Lake Tahoe is. The second thing that comes to mind is snow sports like skiing. It’s apparent when you visit why it is among the popular spots for skiing and snowboarding.
Beyond all that, what makes it even more interesting is the indisputable fact that Lake Tahoe is in both California and Nevada. In Nevada, it’s legal to own statewide casinos and open containers of alcohol in public. However, all of that’s illegal in California. It adds virtually, very little, Vegas element. While not as wild, big, or cosmopolitan as Vegas, the presence of casinos still adds to the nightlife scene. The suave clubs and restaurants at this huge resort trim the casinos attract a younger demographic. There are several types of cuisine in casinos that range from upscale, fine dining to more relaxed and budget-friendly establishments. Either way, you do not have to look far to find what you crave.
On the California side, it is great to spend the first part of your day walking through the woods, taking in all the beauty of nature. When I visited last weekend, I had the pleasure of witnessing the Kokanee salmon’s journey to spawn. It was certainly a special moment that I will all the time remember. If you walk along some of the trails long enough, you may be lucky enough to see a bear. Something, I, personally find scary, but for you all natural adrenaline junkies, exhilarating moments and great Instagram photo opportunities (no selfies, obviously). We’re all the time busy on our phones so it is nice to take a break and get lost, safely, in the woods. After a calming day of sightseeing, or perhaps an action-packed day stuffed with skiing or snowboarding, you can head to the Nevada side and gamble. Or, if it is a Friday night, hit up one of the casino clubs. Either way, no matter what sort of person you are, there’s something fun at Tahoe for you to do. So whether you want to be dazzled by the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe, or if your idea of beauty is triple sevens and cocktails, you will love taking the trip.
