Located at The Kimberly Hotel in Manhattan, you’ll find Ibis. This newly reconstructed restaurant has plenty of history. Since the 1920s, the site has been home to many prolific visionaries. From staging productions with elaborate traditional decorations to large symphony-sized orchestras, choirs, celebrities and plenty of supporting and prominent soloists, the building has nurtured many creative souls.
If these walls could talk – I’d listen! The genius that was born from this establishment was extraordinary. In the 1950s, Bob Hope, Dean Martin, and Jerry Lewis performed at what became known as The Versailles. Dezi Arnaz and his orchestra also perform here, and there is no reason why the new owners would not want to capture that same essence when they opened ibis last fall.
The new “Ibis” in Midtown has the essence of a 1920s opera house as it all the time has.
Completely reconstructed, outfitted with ornate winding staircases, cathedral vaulted ceilings, and the charm and beauty of yesteryear, Ibis has recaptured a historic Manhattan destination that is bound to thrill all who experience its riches.”
The food is delicious. It is a refined blend of Middle Eastern, European, Mediterranean and particularly, Turkish. With ingredients consisting of lamb, chicken, cumin, bulgur, eggplant, peppers, shallots, garlic and tomatoes, Chef Orhan Yegen creates food of exceptionally savory class. From yogurt soup to stuffed bulgur croquettes and lamb papillotes, Orhan adds a touch of his vibrant personality to every dish. The service is upbeat and consistent; the atmosphere is friendly with a wide range of live musicians.
The 10,000 square foot restaurant belongs to the classic Kimberly Hotel and seats up to 468 people. There are two full-service bars on two levels, with flat-screen televisions and projection screens, and a state-of-the-art DJ Booth. I highly recommend Ibis for dinner or social gatherings. You will not be disappointed. Ask to speak to Mary or Orhan – their smiles will make your evening!
