Former Marine and now business owner, Patrick Tuohy also known as Pat, has all the time been a man of risk. Thomas Jefferson may have said, “With risk comes great reward,” but Pat is a modern example of how risk is really rewarding.
After graduating as a student-athlete from Westfield High School in 2000, Pat attended Roanke College for 1 year before he decided to enlist in the Marine Corps at the age of 19. Pat served abroad in OIF 1 and OIF II (Operation Freedom of Iraq) all before the age of 21. With numerous forms of military training/education, abroad service, and Meritorious Promotions throughout his military career, Pat forged a common bond amongst his military brethren and have become taught discipline and leadership skills.
Post placement Pat returned to school at Roanoke College where he received a BA in History in May 2006, then continued to teach at Union High School from 2009-2010. However, he knew something was wrong in his life, and yet again, Pat took a risk.
A year later, in 2011 Pat decided to quit his full time job as a teacher and follow his dream of opening an athletic training center. Today, 3 years later, Pat manages to have his own Athletic based training center known as X-tra Mile Fitness LLC.
X-tra Mile Fitness, located in Cranford, NJ, is built on sweat, fear, passion, and dreams. Pat created this facility to train and help athletes be their best, on and off the court. Their customers range from 3rd class student athletes to men/women aged 80 years. Although X-tra Mile focuses primarily on athletes, they offer a broad range of other services for other fitness related activities such as yoga, adult/youth boot camps, 1 on 1 classes, summer camps, TRX, Pilates, etc.
Pat is not only a former highschool and college football and lacrosse player, but he’s also the Lacrosse Coach at Westfield High School where he has won Coach of the Year 2010 (as Assistant Coach) and most recently in 2014 as Head Coach. With these qualifications, diverse military certifications and training, it is safe to say that Pat knows a thing or two in terms of fitness and health.
Matt Andzel, Strength and Agility Coach, has also been a key member of the X-tra Mile team and their growth since 2011. The former football player and coach received his Master of Exercise Science from Kean University in 2011 and has since received several certifications in fitness and strength training. Not only has he played a critical role in the successful expansion of the training centre, but he himself has learned and grown as an individual from working with Pat on X-tra Mile. “He being me, there are no boundaries,” says Matt, “We have the same ideas about training and sharing sports knowledge because of our backgrounds as athletes and coaches, I always feel driven here.”
X-tra mile not only offers a number of flexible classes/programs, but they also offer free consultations for members who are unsure whether this training center is right for them or not. Visit them website today (web address below if you were unable to click on the previous link) to find out about their prices, check their class schedule/descriptions, read more about their trainers/athletes, take a look at their online shop, round up new healthy recipes and food options and see photos of the amenities and training that takes place every day.
“The goal remains the same, just to provide our clients with the main product and that I feel like, you cannot really think too much about yourself. You want to have a plan and benchmarks but I do not like to limit myself either, Pat shares, “Sometimes you can limit yourself with your thoughts before you even start, but what if you could do more?”
It’s clear that not only is the X-tra mile crammed with terrific training services and equipment throughout the facility, but the clients and athletes who train here are led by incredible instructors who want nothing but the best, mentally and physically, for their trainees. they. You don’t have anything to lose by being a member of their incredible team, you’ll only gain. So take the plunge, and go for the X-tra mile.
