After giving up swimming in 2012, Michael Phelps made a comeback at the 2016 Rio Olympics. On Sunday, August 7, Phelps and his relay team, Caleb Dressel, Ryan Held and Nathan Adrian, took home the gold medal in the 4×100. Team time is 3 minutes, 9.92 seconds. Dressel started with 48.10, then Phelps with 47.12, Held with 47.79 and Adrian finished with 46.97.[1] The gold medal would be Phelps’ 19th career Olympic Gold and 23rd total to make him the most decorated Olympian of all time. It wasn’t the first Olympic win for Team USA. Katie Ledecky won gold for her performance in the 400m freestyle. Ledecky’s time broke his own record (3:58.37 in the Pan Pacific Championship) in 3:56.46 this race, which was about five seconds quicker than his closest competitor.[2]
