Our life can change in an instant. One minute everything can go clumsily along the same predictable path, the next minute, wham, everything is floating in mid-air, and nothing is for certain. The reality is that control is an illusion, but it’s how we dress up that illusion for ourselves that will get us through any life-changing event. Today we have highlighted a few ways to deal with such unforeseen events:
Manage Your Finances
One thing is for certain, unforeseen events will affect your finances. So, if you have financial problems, you must deal with them. For some of us, thinking about this can be downright scary, and plenty of people have lost complete control of their finances, which is why there’s such an enormous debt problem. Take an honest look at your finches and find out where you are. See a financial planner if necessary, and develop a technique for getting out of debt and getting started savings. A rainy day fund is important for preparing for the unforeseen.
Place an Order
If your life spirals out of control when something happens, you’ll find it difficult to cope. Disorganization comes in many forms, from a cluttered house that makes it hard to find anything, to having plenty of documentation undone like getting insurance or talking to Wills and estate lawyer. You can even find order by tidying up all the spaces in your life, such as your physical space and your mental space. The extra space you can create in each field, the better prepared you’ll be when something goes wrong.
Imagine Worse
This can in fact be quite a fun exercise, but has very serious intentions and results. If you want to be prepared for the unforeseen, you need to imagine that all the bad things that could occur did occur. Scale how likely it’s to occur, then develop a technique for dealing with each event. If your house catches fire, for example, are you covered under your insurance policy, do you have a working fire alarm, do you have an escape route, do you need a fire extinguisher, etc. Maybe see some real life stories about people whose lives were turned upside down as a result of unforeseen events. Learn from their mistakes.
Reception
If you’re the type of person with the mindset that nothing will ever occur to you, you’ll be most surprised when something happens. Things occur to everybody all the time, and you aren’t any exception. So, just develop a mindset about reception that things change and can change at a moment’s notice can even help you. If you can do this, you’ll also become much stronger. You will also have the ability to reduce the damage that has been done. Because, rather than fighting change, you work with it and create a way through it that prevents more disaster from happening.
