Who does not miss paintings of Chuck Taylor’s, Vans, Air Force Ones, tote bags, high heels, or custom hand-painted clothing? Rarely do we have the luck to find an artist capable enough to be capable to convey the whole vision of clothing, but when we do, there is no letting go. Punk Your Chucks has been and continues to be probably the most sought-after brands of its kind as a result of realizing the vision through the artistry of Matt Gomez, also known as MAG, the talented artist behind the Genius line.
After his parents divorced during his teenage years, MAG lived in New York City with his mother, while his father decided to live with the Ahwaeechees, the Miwok Indian tribe of Yosemite Valley. Growing up without a father figure, a mother who kept working while attending college, and a sister who spent most of her time with friends, MAG grew hopeless and withdrawn, looking for more. As he began to lose interest at school, MAG’s attention began to expand towards museums, libraries and zoos. Spending long hours wandering the halls of museums and cultural establishments to escape the real world and divulge more real worlds, MAG’s growing concern for the world of art. Although his mother was an avid sketch artist, oil painter, and poet, his rebellious side continued to distance itself from the front of the house, drawing more attention to his graffiti art, sketching, painting, and sculpting every time and wherever he wanted. . Inspired by artists such as Picasso, Pollock, and Georgia O’Keefe, it was the work of Andy Warhol that gave MAG an insightful yet witty reflection on American culture and modern art. Regardless of what famous artists inspired her growing up, MAG’s biggest inspiration today is her daughter. A talented artist herself and a sophomore undergraduate at the School Of Visual Arts in New York, Gabrielle followed in her father’s footsteps.
Taking Punk Your Chucks exclusivity customization to the next level, hand painting every item, MAG’s attention to detail flows through the brilliance of his work. After each new pair, the first thought that never failed to cross his mind was that it was the best pair he had ever made, but that thought only lasted until the next pair was finished. Being a crowd pleaser in the entertainment world, MAG friends like drummer Chad Szeliga rely solely on him to personalize each pair, knowing that nobody can match him. With a client list ranging from bands and artists such as; Nickelback, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, 3 Doors Down, Black Label Society, Will Smith, Samuel L. Jackson, Mira Sorvino, Alexa Ray Joel, amongst many others, Punk Your Chucks’ popularity continues to grow day by day.
Since making anything customized is inherently limited with only so many hours available in a day to spend painting, a vital goal for MAG was to create a collaboration between Punk You Chucks and lots of other avenues in the industry. Currently working on the pre-production stage of a new video webisode together with the webisode team and their sponsors; Justin Reich, Ali Abouomar, Liquid Lightning Energy Drinks, and Dolby Laboratories, the MAG webisode will feature behind-the-scenes interviews of bands and celebrities at concerts and events, DIY instructional segments teaching customers how to paint their own shoes and clothing, and more. Not only is web code on the bright horizon for MAG, but Your Stuff Rockin’ Punk Street Store is working to bring special products upon release to US and Canadian streets for clients. Between limited-time signature merchandise and custom clothing, Punk Your Chucks are about to hit the road and tour a city near you!
