As someone who hasn’t used a curling iron in about eight months, and hasn’t touched a curling iron in over two years, styles that require high heat aren’t my favourite. Not that hot hairstyles are bad; they simply take up too much time when I could be doing other things for a while (like sleeping, essentially).
Well, here are some quick hairstyles that require no heat at all! Perfect for dress up or makeup, for any occasion!
SNAKE BRAID
This is my go-to hairstyle for days when I just want to get my hair out of my eyes.
Here’s what to do:
- Hold the strand of your hair closest to your eyes (each side work). How big or small the piece of hair depends on how thick or thin you want the braid to be. Start braiding the piece about midway through – just a classic, easy braid.
- Once you are midway there, do not let go of the braid! You should have two halves in one hand and one in the other. Hold one section and squeeze the other two upwards. The braid will look very dense at this point. From here, gently pull the braid down and it will look like a snake! Pin your strands near your ears and you are done!
- I generally do snake braids with my hair down, but you can at all times put your hair in a messy ponytail and rock a snake braid like that!
FRANCE & FISHTAIL IN ONE
This one takes a bit more time, but not much. I’ve worn this look numerous times – it is so cute!
Here’s what to do:
- Do a regular French braid at the back of your head. If you cannot French braid your own hair (do not worry, I can not French braid my whole life!), you can at all times enlist the help of a friend or relative. You will braid your hair up to your neck. Secure with elastic.
- From here, you will start to create a side fishtail braid with the remaining hair. Fishtail all the way down and secure with another elastic.
- The next two sections are optional, but you can at all times cut the elastic that holds the French braid in place if you want a messier look. And I like to pull my fishtails lightly to thicken the braids. This makes it look much thicker!
I certainly wear this on casual days, but I also wear this look for formal occasions. Casual meets stylish!
FISHTAIL TOP KNOTS
If you want to dress up your top knot, this is my all-time favourite style.
Here’s what to do:
- Throw all of your hair into an excellent high ponytail. Fishtail braid your ponytail down.
- Then, wrap the fishtail around the top of your head as if you were forming a bun. Hide the elastic and secure it with bobby pins.
- If you want a messier look, pull up some baby bangs and stretch out the braids.
I wear this to work, I wear this to formal events, and that I wear this on my laziest days. And I get compliments every time!
Braided headband
Why buy a headband when your hair can do the very same thing?
Here’s what to do:
- From the very bottom and back of your hair, pick up lots of hair. Again, the amount of hair in this strand will depend upon how thick or thin you want your headband to be. Braid down, and pull up the braid to create the thickness you want.
- Take a strand of hair and wrap it around the top of your head, as if it were a headband. Pin the braid under your hair so that the bobby pins are barely visible.
- My biggest tip for this is to ensure your braid is SAFE. If it isn’t secure, it’s will fall out! So ensure your bobby pins hold everything in place.
I wear this look with my hair down, but I like to style it with a normal top knot. The braided headband gives an easy top knot that much more dimension!
TRIPLE BRAIDED BRAID
This is an incredible option for a classic side braid. This certainly looks far more complicated than it truly is!
Here’s what to do:
- Throw your hair to one side as if you were starting a normal side braid.
- As usual, divide your hair into three sections.
- Basically, you are going to make three separate braids with those three strands of hair.
- Once all three braids are done, braid the braids into one giant braid. I know, it sounds confusing, but it isn’t! At the end of all of your endless braiding you’ll have an excellent thick braid that has three braids in it.
This look is bound to trick people into thinking you spend plenty of time on your hair, when in fact, it only takes about three minutes to get it done. Simple is at all times the way to go!
FAMOUS CROWN
I’m sure you have seen this in many YouTube videos and Pinterest blogs, but it is so funny, I had to share it.
Here’s what to do:
- You will take the two strands closest to your face. One strand on your left side, one strand on your right. Braid these two sections all the way down.
- Then, you are just going to take these two pieces and arrange them in the back of your head. Pinch them and you are done!
- This is a very cute way to style your hair if you do not want to deal with your facial hair at all. Goodbye flower crown, hello braided crown!
ULTRA LONG ponytail
My least favourite thing about styling my hair is the indisputable fact that it looks a lot shorter in a ponytail. This next hairstyle is unquestionably a fun solution!
Here’s what to do:
- Basically, you’ll make two ponytails.
- Part your hair into two equal sections, top and bottom. Tie the top half of your hair into a high ponytail.
- Put the bottom half of your hair into a low ponytail, only a few inches below the first ponytail. By doing this your ends look longer and the better part? No one knows that there are two ponytails! It just looks like one giant pony.
As you all know, ponytails are very versatile, so you can wear them in many alternative ways and they’ll at all times look cute!
reverse ponytail
I used to do this a lot as a child, and that I was at all times blown away by how cool it looked. And here I’m today, nineteen years old, still fascinated by it.
Here’s what to do:
- Put your hair in a medium to low ponytail. Just above the elastic, make a hole.
- You will loop the ponytail through this hole.
- Pull all the way through and tighten. It’s literally that easy.
This one is a classic, but certainly a must-have! It never fails.
wavy SIDE BRAID
This hairstyle is an incredible way to remove hair from your face. And it is super cute, obviously!
Here’s what to do:
- This is a normal side braid, except with wavy twists! First, throw all of your hair to one side of the head. You will essentially twist the top of your hair.
- Twist and turn until you have cute little waves.
- Pin the twist down (otherwise you can use hairspray if that suits you better) and then start braiding the bottom of your hair.
- The transition from waves to braids is great!
You’ll have these ten super-fast (and cute!) hairstyles in no time. And when you do, you will look even more like a queen than ever before!
(Disclaimer: I do not make all of these hairstyles myself, but many of them are too cute not to include! Props to the true beauticians who come up with hairstyles so cool they’re blowing up all over Pinterest and YouTube.)
