Just days after Christmas, Russell Crowe began a Twitter rant with Virgin Australia airline for banning hoverboards as carry-on. Crowe’s kids just wanted to take them and weren’t allowed to.
He tweeted, “Ridiculous @VirginAustralia. No Segway board as baggage? Too late to tell us at the airport. The kids and that I unloaded. Goodbye Virgin. Will no longer.”
Virgin Australia responded with, “Hey Russell, due to safety concerns over lithium ion batteries on hoverboards, this has been banned on all major Australian airlines and many around the world.”
Everything would be fine if Crowe knew his kids weren’t allowed to take them with him when he bought the tickets.
Crowe was still unhappy and tweeted back, “.@VirginAustralia I am waiting for your reply, where is your responsibilities in this matter? Why didn’t you tell me when I booked my ticket?”
Hoverboards were reportedly banned because of lithium batteries.
Others agreed with the airline tweeting back with comments like, “It was in black and white old man. No lithium battery. You are wrong,” and “Russell Crowe resents being treated like the rest of us?” “Hoverboards are on fire…. I don’t want those on my plane either.”
Australian airlines aren’t the only ones to enforce the ban, US and UK airlines have already banned traveling on hoverboards.[1]
