Believe it or not, all black is the new color palette for many people! New age gothic wishes can be seen all over social media and on streets nationwide. Many might think that it still means people with evil mindsets, devil worship and evil behavior, but it’s so much more than that.
With every change of season, there are at all times new trends that emerge. Isn’t it great to take a look that can be worn all year round with a little tweaking? Now there. Everything is all black. Channeling a NY vibe, an all-black wardrobe can spice up your look, set you other than the crowd, and offer you a BADA$$ attitude. There are many ways to interpret this style and execute the look that’s right for you! Here are some examples.
Beautiful City: For guys, it looks pretty easy. For an urban look, Chino denim or a good black denim is a must have. Ankle rolls show a sense of style and dedication to the look. Layering a long t-shirt or button-down shirt with a denim or leather jacket gives you a dapper city look that looks great and when sized right, helps show off your chiseled body. To complete the look, slip on a pair of black oxford, ankle, or chukka boots. Wearing a pair of penny loafers is an excellent idea for a vintage Victorian look. For you ladies out there trying to find dark yet sexy Up-town girl videos, super skinny leggings, leather, or all black fake leather are great options for slim legs. A pair of black pointed toe pumps is a must have for this style! The pointy ends will help lengthen your legs and offer you that business girl sex appeal. Plus size sweaters, tunics and tanks are the perfect pair for your well-fitted bottoms and can be super snug if your day is full of activity. For layering options, depending on the weather, try an oversized blazer, leather jacket, or as seen here, a well structured peacoat!
An all-black leather tote bag and oversized sunglasses are great accessories for this look!
punk/skateboard: This man’s appearance is possibly the most imitated and often seen. It’s been around for years since the days of rock and roll and metal music. It’s very easy and carefree. The look consists of your favourite distressed black skinnies, favourite band or skate brand tee and to top it off, layer the hoodie with a denim or leather jacket. For the denim game, try going vintage worn with a blue denim jacket. Patches aren’t needed but they do help improve your coolness. 😉 For shoe choices, your favourite skate shoes or common street, skate, or casual brands like Vans, Converse, New Balance, Etnie, or Nike will do the trick!
Accessories are minimal for this look, but a fitted beanie or ball cap will do the trick! For women, this look is also the easiest to execute! It resembles the look you have when you leave your friend’s place the morning after a show or concert in the basement! Worn with a pair of distressed jeans it can be paired with an old band t-shirt or even a t-shirt that you have stolen from your bf. Distressed tees with a few pinholes can be both fun and sexy. Layer your shirt with an oversized cardigan or duster. Very snug and squalid. Tousled hair to complete the look and slip on some Converse or Vans and you are ready to hit the road!
Urban Games: The all-black color palette is also taking shape in deep street style. An identical appearance can be seen in famous celebrities and musicians, but here we see it taking shape in my friend Jimmy Q.
Views are first and foremost all about attitude! You must trust it to swing it well. For the guys, you have the crotch harem pants. This can be seen in fake leather, pointe and loose knits. They are very snug and fun to wear. The moto style, as pictured is an excellent choice for a more fashionable look with details on zippers, pin tucks, buckles, and even a skirt-like front flap. Pair these pants with a long neck t-shirt or thermal shirt. Thin, light knits are an excellent choice for flow fabrics and layering. A leather bomber jacket is an excellent option for your top layer. This will help the sporty harem pants look. To continue the urban and sporty look, rock a pair of high sneakers. Fashion sneakers are preferable to true athletic sneakers. Keep in mind, we will appear sporty, not exercising. Some chunky chain necklaces and rings and a tattoo and you are all set! For the women, this girl is all about attitude, good looks and make-up! It is a mix between dark edgy goth and urban street style. To complete this look, wear shiny black leggings or cool patterned leggings from a brand like BlackMilk. Pair it with a long black tank top, crop top, or bralette. The sexier the better. Layering options can consist of a leather moto vest or a cropped leather jacket. Attention to the waistline is essential in this look.
As for accessories, layering long necklaces with chokers, stacked bracelets, and leather bracelets are great options. Other accessories to consider are armor, oversized sunglasses, wide-brimmed hats, belts and armbands. As for the shoes, this look calls for striking stacked platforms or chucky heels. Check out our brands like Jeffrey Campbell, YRU and UNIF.
Euro Street: Last but not least, one of my favourite looks! This interpretation of the gothic style is all about fashion, silhouettes, and transitions from one piece to the next. It is similar to NY style but different in its own way. It’s all about androgyny. For men, your bottom can consist of short black shorts, ankle pants, skinny skinny jeans, or simply plain black skinny denim. The tighter the better for this style. This helps maintain a customized European look. For tops, you can go for slim tees with asymmetrical cuts and stickers. Long-sleeved T-shirts with longer lengths are an excellent choice for making the body look longer and thinner. For layering options, try draped jackets, scawl hoodies, capes and blazers. For guys, this look is an opportunity to play androgynously in a style you have never tried before.
For shoes, try stacked creepers, or Oxford platforms. Another option is a black strappy scandal or metallic leather shoes.
Accessories for this look are another chance to have fun and try new things. A men’s clutch or a small structured bag to store your belongings is an excellent option. Cufflinks and necklaces ranging from chokers to long pendents are all great choices depending on the top. Hats like wide brim or bowler are great options to consider too!
Again for the women, an open mind and androgeny is key! For bottoms you can do black skinny, ankle pants, shorts or minis. Keep your top easy with a soft knit t-shirt or silk blouse. Nothing too baggy but more subtle and relaxed. Your outer layer is where you want to add drama. As pictured here in a long tweed jacket moto style with zipper detail. Other options are fur vests or jackets, long duster or parkas. Also consider dress options such as long tubular maxis or empire waist dresses.
For shoes, ladies can try black pointed toe ballet flats, black leather boots or oxfords. For a rock solid look, try the multi-bend boots like the one pictured here! Jewelry can consist of little finger rings, thin bracelets, and bracelets. Choice of necklaces are single strand pearls, layered thin chains or single independent necklaces. The handbag should be either a structured tote bag or a slouchy bum bag depending on the final look.
So there you have it guys! Damage to the new age got. The nice thing about all of these styles is that they can be mixed and matched. You can take ideas and pieces from each look and come up with a look that’s perfect for you! I personally played and played in all of them and that I must say that it’s quite a lot of fun to pick up on the personality and attitude that every style gives you! Keep in mind, fashion is meant to be fun and quirky, wearing all black can look creepy and irreverent but when done right I bet you’ll have the coolest outfit out of everybody no matter how creepy or scary you are. might look! Shake and stay spooky! 😉
